I keep hearing the election will be close and agree it needs to be said to get people to the polls, but I don’t believe it will be as close as people predict. I’d be surprised if Harris does not win by a small landslide.

Expand full comment

It might not be close in the popular vote, but, unfortunately, it’s the electoral process that will make this very close. That’s the messed up democracy that we live in,

Expand full comment

True, but I also believe the purple states will swing blue by more than predicted. Look at North Carolina. It’s not even supposed to be in play but is!

Expand full comment

I always keep in mind that one may run faster to the hurdle but one still has to jump the hurdle. Having purple states swing MORE blue helps if voters clear the hurdle and vote blue changing the state to blue.

From your text to making this a reality 🙏🏾

I’ve been accused of being too much of an optimist. 🤷🏽

I don't know, the 2020 winner received the same electoral count as the winner in 2016 did and called HIS win a "landslide," so there's that!

I’m with you, Joyce. I don’t believe it will be nearly as tight as the pundits are predicting.

I believe purple states will indeed turn blue, giving the totally B.S. Electoral College a fatal stroke. We all know Hilary won the popular vote in 2016, the person seated in the Oval Office should reflect the will of the people.

This should not be stolen from Americans. How does anything other than winning the popular vote make sense?

Republicans have carved out special rules that benefit their party because if left to the popular vote, they wouldn’t exist. We have beaten back those who’ve tried over and over to turn our democracy into a dictatorship with blood, sweat and tears. We love our democracy and that is evident in every election.

Republicans have cheated their way into the White House only to be thrown out over and over by voters. The media has turned into a steaming pile, they’ve been bought and sold by foreign and domestic oligarchs who tell them what to say.

They are not welcome in my world any longer.

No matter what underhanded methods they use, from packing the SC to taking away women’s rights and voter suppression laws only makes voters more determined to resist any attempt to destroy our democracy and turn us into a monarchy. America does not recognize an aristocracy or a king.

Happy Labor Day!

I’ll take good news where I can get it, but I don’t know why anyone still listens to Nate Silver.

Totally agree with you re Nate Silver. He had one good call many elections ago and has been screwing the pooch ever since, yet people act like he hasn’t 🤷🏻‍♀️

I can see and understand the enthusiasm on the democratic side - joy and enthusiasm are contagious, and something we as a country have been in serious need of. What I don't understand is enthusiasm for the orange perp. I find his whole outlook depressing. And that doesn't even count the fact that I can't follow his trains of thought. I'm glad to know that enthusiasm brings out more voters.

The enthusiasm for the other guy is largely based on gaslighting, grandstanding, and gargantuan gish galloping.

Trump fans like him because they believe that they're one of his “peers,” not just a supporter.

A big draw for many supporters is that they think they're part of a club (we say a CULT) where they ALL feel they're "insiders" to some underground or underworld "cabal" of sorts. They're all in on the joke. They're a single-minded group who revels in the belief that it's all a great “secret.”

That's why they dress alike with complementing uniforms.

They're not sheep, after all.

Expand full comment

Interesting that his followers and supporters do not know, or ignore, his dismissal of them, his disgust of them, according to people who worked in the WH. He ridiculed the evangelicals that prayed over him in the WH. And dismisses the men & women among his followers who served in the armed services. It seems as though they think he means “those people”, which “excludes” them.

Will they wake up & see and hear him for what he is in time to avoid another coup attempt?

And let's watch as they're turned away at the door of mar-a-lago when they show up wearing all that trump paraphernalia!

Expand full comment

Yes, and that is why this movement caught on so quickly because it’s based on peer pressure and belonging to a “clique”. Peer pressure is based on a survival instinct; and to be kicked out of a group like the Trump Cult, is to cease to be alive. Trump hypnotized them, QUICKLY, per his instructions, and now he demands their blind loyalty. And he has it

Expand full comment

What I’d really like to know is who trained Trump to hypnotize his followers in a few short months?

They were always there. The racists were always racist.

The bully’s were always bully’s. The men who treat women violently were always there. Trump just made it okay to shout about it because he did. He said they were just like him, and that all those traits were ‘very good.’

Expand full comment

David, everything you say about them makes sense, but it still doesn't compute for me. Interesting that they are part of a great secret, and they can keep it secret by dressing like trump. I think I would liken them to lemmings.

I believe the Harris/Walz ticket is a "Winning Team"for the American people.A positive avenue for States and Local level candidates to Win their seats as well. Thank You(again) for bringing us the Facts and the Truth, I appreciate you 🙏💙🇺🇸

I have to ask, though: if so many Republicans have abandoned Trump as they say they have, and Kennedy is out of the race, where are all these extra Trump voters supposed to be coming from? People who didn't vote last time? Young people? I have my doubts. Surely Democrats aren't defecting to him--are they? Why would they do that? It's hard to imagine that if they're upset about Gaza they would vote for him instead of Harris, so I repeat: where are all these extra Trump voters supposed to come from and why?

Expand full comment

Plus the fact that Dumpty is spending his time lately going to rural "sundown" towns where mostly white ppl live. That certainly won't accomplish attracting anymore voters.

Personally, I troubled that Democrats aren't publicizing Project 2025/Agenda 47 more.

THAT is a huge mistake.

Great article- My wife and I were on a hike today and ended up sitting for lunch with a friendly group of 20-somethings. Someone in their group said something to the effect of “I hope Trump loses” and I couldn’t help asking “are you registered?” One said they weren’t going to vote because they didn’t give a shit. That stirred a conversation by the women saying he damn well better because their privacy was on the line. There was a lot of ‘we didn’t know’ from two guys. It was fun watching them sort it out.

I think they’ll all be voting.

Now, THAT'S interesting. I'm 68. When I attended public school, Civics was taught. Regardless, my dad loved history and taught us to vote and love FDR/Truman-type politicians.

That's all gone!

Most young parents don't bother teaching their kids manners, let alone history and with privatization of schools, Civics hasn't been taught in decades.

We shouldn't wonder why young ppl don't vote.

At that conversation, there should have been a whole lot more push back.

Any young person--anybody who hates or doesn't want to vote needs to be told firmly: "You will regret that decision. This could be your last chance."

I bet nobody mentioned that fact.

Now, I'm scared about youth vote. Ugh.

Seriously, civics ought to be a core element of universal public education, right alongside other basic literacies.

I contend that the Dobbs anti-abortion decision makes all polls inaccurate on tRump's side. IOW, the supine court has given democrats a huge advantage among women and those who love them, and all Constitutional freedoms, esp privacy. The idiot cons on the extreme court have cut their own throats and will not realize it until their republicon candidates get swamped in the 2024 elections. Their religion has made them into unthinking bots, not judges, let alone justices.

And the whole tRumpian party (formerly republican) has followed their lead like rats following the Pied Piper (tRump). Their dishonor will track them all their ignominious days.

Harris and Walz will lead this always great country into the most free, powerful and blessed period of it's honorable existence. I may be slightly hyperbolic in this post because I see the future through rose colored glasses. Time will tell.

Kamala and Tim have a lot to carry on their shoulders. The voters that asked for their help now need to help them build it !! I’d say.

This is enthusiasm for you, here. What Democratic party leaders are underestimating are the masses of reichwing voters refusing to hear, learn about Project 2025/Agenda 47. If, IF, reichwingers heard about it, they STILL refuse to tie it to reality and that the ppl they are voting for are going to implement it Day 1, starting with Felon 45.

Democratic party leadership is failing to get THAT OUT. There should be TV ads about that everday until election time. That's why reichwing enthusiasm isn't worse than it should be.

I am getting many unknown caller alerts since late July. I don't need to pick up, thanks to cellphone blocking. I wonder how many thousands of potential poll responders also ignore these calls, because their minds are already made up and they resent so many intrusions into their day?
