If the corporate media was doing its job Trump wouldn't be close to the nomination, he'd be close to either a prison cell or a padded room.

They’ve already started working on the lawsuits about his will, I suspect. 🤔😉😊

The. media. just. doesn't. care.

They love the horse race/soap opera.

It's even got porn stars.

ALL LAME-STREAM MEDIA IS CORRUPT.

Having worked in and with the mainstream media, I would not go that far.

I would just say..."They can be pretty dumb."

I guess you haven’t been watching their biased reporting and both-sidesing. They’re clearly in DEMENTIA DON’s pocket.

As Drill Sergeants say when asking questions in Boot Camp:

"ONE WRONG ANSWER, RECRUIT!!!"

I work in an office that has CNN and MSNBC on ALL. DAY. LONG. Eight to 10 hours a day.

I see the "both-sidesing" ALL. DAY. LONG.

It is more about ratings and making the election a horse race/soap opera than anything else.

Next time you say something that bloody ignorant, come to my office and sit here for eight hours a day, staring up at the TV screens and the media pundits.

ALL.

DAY.

LONG.

I would go stark raving mad in an office like that. In one day. Probably before lunch.

I've been here 25 years.

I'm either an institution or I'm institutionalized. I think it's the latter.

Poverty will dumb down anyone. Shock from losing your home to fire, flooding, tornadoes and earthquakes and no insurance will dumb down anyone, add to breakup of families, divorce, joblessness, one parent families, homelessness, ruined health, frustration, anger, depression and helpless grief. I went into mourning for my country in 1989. The Greens were right about the effect climate change would have on society, but no one in the government had the courage to do anything about it.

The only way to make the oil & gas industry transition to renewable (my understanding is they already have plans to do so, they’re just fine with continuing to make money on oil & gas as long as they can) is to penalize them for not transitioning. That can be done a number of different ways: 1. Pass legislation giving them a date by which they must generate energy 50% oil & gas & 50% renewable. Make them pay a monetary penalty for failing to meet that requirement. 2. People who have had their homes destroyed more than twice by extreme weather events could be put in a special category for the purpose of insuring their homes, then pass legislation requiring the oil & gas industry to pay to insure those homes. I’m sure there are more ways they could be penalized. Anything that

makes them accountable for the destruction and lives lost to extreme weather events will do.

And the Climate Change deniers are still out in full force.

As Sarah Palin says (and her followers here on Substack echo) "Drill, Baby, Drill!"

And what will they do when the fossil run out?

Oh, yeah, we'll colonize that planet in "Avatar" and use "unobtanium."

Expand full comment

I suspect that the planet will have become largely or completely uninhabitable before we run out of fossil fuel. (It's not just "drill, baby, drill"; there's also "frack, baby, frack" which will give us earthquakes and groundwater that's polluted by mystery poisons because the fracking liquid is "proprietary and, therefore, secret".

A good reason for Biden and tRump to debate. Normal age-related cognizance (that wasn't displayed in the SOTU) vs tRump's inability to hold an intelligible conversation. MSM would be hard-pressed to deny decompensation viewed by millions.

Expand full comment

If there is a debate, there is a chairperson, who controls the proceedings. S/he better have control of the volume on Donalds microphone and cut him off when his time is up.

Expand full comment

"Debate" is probably an inaccurate descriptor of the uncontrollable chaos likely to be emanating from the right side of the political divide. If the moderator(s) would indeed hold the participants to their allotted times that would be a first. tRump will not respect the authority of the moderators nor conduct himself in a courteous manner to anyone involved. That will only please his cult - I hope the still persuadable will be disgusted.

I really can’t picture what a debate would do?( Wud love to show thr differences side by side thou).

My husband always said “ give them a 30 second warning then when they go past it, the mic stops cold. “

This way the playing field is timed out. And we can’t play the victim card.

I really wish a debate did it for me. Unfortunately debates have become sound bites, and un equal representation to any said candidate.

Expand full comment

The content is not as important as showing the differences in delivery...

Expand full comment

Especially if he delivered the way he did at his other famous debate with Biden…floridly ill with Covid, attacking Biden, attacking Chris Wallace, complete inability to follow any rules or norms, basically a berserk runaway freight train.

Biden should run a clip of Trump’s behavior at that debate with the question:

“I’m supposed to debate *that*?”

Expand full comment

My favorite part is the shutting off of microphones when it's not the candidate's turn. I don't know if trump's people have agreed to that. I can just see trump jumping on Biden and taking the mic from him to continue whatever incomprehensible screed he was babbling when his time was up. Civil War...the late great Hannibal Lecter...Wow.

I'll chime in for what it's worth. My dad was a malignant narcissist. Let's just say life with him was interesting. My dad first showed signs of dementia age 79. I was his caregiver. He moved in with me the last 3 y.s before covid took him at age 87 in Jan.'22. Simply put, w/o going into too much detail, adding dementia to a malignant narcissist is like throwing fuel on a fire. Insanity in it's purest form. I do want to point out dementia progresses at different speeds for each individual. But it definitely progresses. Once present it never regresses. Just an approximate guess as to where trump is? I'd say beginning of mid-stage.

I don't know much about dementia, but I do know that trump has become progressively more incoherent and incomprehensible. So I trust the experts, and hope that at least some of the media report on this, instead of the trump propaganda - which is all projection, anyway. I have learned that if trump attributes something to Joe Biden, what he's really doing is telling us about himself.

It wouldn’t matter if tRump became “incapacitated” while in office. He would have all the people in place that have their own agenda for dismantling democracy and they would be gleeful he wouldn’t be around to interfere. Sane or as a nut case, tRump in any mental capacity will be a disaster. We have to save ourselves!

Per NYT: 30,000 lies in 4 years in office. If we knew Donald personally, which we do, we would discount everything he says. Because we know him to be a pathological (as in sick) liar. The normally skeptical journalists report his frauds as though they are legit. Without the context of “but we know he’s a liar”. Propping up this weak loser sells eyeballs. Corrupt. Sellouts. Enablers of crimes against the nation.

How long, I wonder, before he just starts babbling totally incoherently (more than he’s been) in public appearances? Y’know, like that stroke finally hit? He’s already painfully close to a Capt. Queeg moment.

Also, I expect that during a debate (assuming Trump lasts that long) if Trump tries to pull the kind of crap he pulled with Hillary, Biden will react assertively, rather than just try to stay on message like she did (one of her bigger mistakes that year).🤔😉😊

No one on the right, including corporate media, gives a flying fuck whether the Donald has cognizance. All interest in what he is was burned to the ground the day votes were cast for the pussy grabbing, mocking, charity stealing, law flaunting, racist s.o.b.

Leading republicans have already declared he is not competent and yet declare will still vote for him. Proving he is unfit is not a story that will sway the people who need to be swayed.

Sadly, the corporate media won't report on Trump's obvious mental deficiency. He's the goose that lays their golden eggs, and they aren't about to do anything to mess with the ratings created by his sensationalism. It gets clicks, eyeballs, and ratings, which means money. (Always follow the money.) The media has been complicit in foisting Trump on America for the last ten years, and it's all because he makes money for them. They aren't about to do anything to upset the applecart with him.

This isn’t new and these doctors are really late to the party.

Call me Cassandra, but I’ve been posting about this for quite a while, identifying the same symptoms and including the observation that this is progressive and will only get worse.

I date this latest sharp decline to when the indictments started stacking up. This trial must be finishing off up every brain cell the man has left.

Biden should agree to a debate…if Trump will agree to a “dementia challenge.” Live on stage.

This makes who he picks as his running mate crucially important. He will not cognitively make it through his term. Hopefully he will never get near to the oval office for us to find out.
