One of the problems with polls is that they only report "how" people answered a poll question, not "why" people answered that question. Trump and his fellow traitors to America are on constant repeat in their right wing media channels, that Joe Biden (or the left or the Democrats) are the real threat to American democracy. They have no evidence to back that up, but they repeat the lies anyway.

The top answer to the NBC poll question for most important issue was “protecting democracy and constitutional rights.” DO NOT ASSUME THAT'S A GOOD SIGN! Just as many radical right wingers might agree with that as Democrats and other sane Americans do.

No matter how late in the election cycle it is, we can never be complacent. We have to work hard nonstop until the threat of a Trump dictatorship is finally tossed into the dustbin of history.

The media is as dangerous as trump and his trumpanzees.

Was trump really concerned about the safety of his followers at the outdoor rally or was he concerned about himself being pelted with hail and having his toupee blown askew? It would be a first if he were concerned for the welfare of another, but you’re right, it emphasizes how quickly he could have dispersed the mob on January 6th if safety of anyone other than himself were a concern of his.

He spends thousands on his hair and orange makeup, did not want his hair blowing in the wind or wet. The day this pathetic man-baby cares about anyone else...will be a cold day in he_l.

Kudos to Bennie Thompson for proactively addressing the issue of our Secret Service providing protection of convicted felons. It will be interesting to hear arguments against.

Thank you for sharing this, Shire. I've been thinking for a long time that a convicted felon does not deserve Secret Service protection.

Or a pension for life. Hopefully when found guilty he will lose both.

Amen to that! Between that and what he loses in the fraud case, he will have an interesting old age. Then again, if he's in prison he won't need any of his fancy real estate. Wonder if he'll ask for a gold toilet in his prison cell???

He'll go to a resort prison, when he deserves to be in general population at a federal prison. Oy!

I hadn't thought of resort prisons. No, he definitely belongs at some place like Rikers…

As the hope and prospect of TFG being sent to jail for violating bail terms or gag orders and eventually conviction, the “Secret Service” question usually comes up. I’d agree few if any would volunteer, except maybe some of the deeply devoted MAGA agents.

But the question should be are they needed at all? Former presidents get Secret Service protection for life, first spouse also gets at least one agent for life even after the death of the president, adult children only get one year of protection after the end of a presidential term. The presumption is the former president’s life is sacred and the president has knowledge of things best kept secret if he/she were to be abducted for ransom. Ditto for first spouse if abducted and used for leverage. Realistically, TFG is not going to be abducted away from a well guarded prison; although the possibility of an inside job with participating sympathetic prison guards could exist. I’d also probably wouldn’t be too far out on a limb to speculate a good chunk of Americans may not view his particular life as sacred.

If there’s a concern, put TFG in solidarity confinement with several adjacent cells empty. Maybe reopen an old wing just for him, similar to England holding Rudolf Hess during WW2 and then in Spandau Prison, Berlin afterwards as the only prisoner. Maybe a cell behind a sound and bulletproof glass wall where he can enjoy fava beans and a nice Chianti. This could be special preferential treatment I could actually get behind, unlike the kid gloves stuff he’s getting now from courts, politicians, and the lame stream media.

I've read that there is a particularly dreadful wing at GITMO, specifically designed for terrorists, plenty of room available, boat parade friendly for visiting day and nearby for his complicit wife to visit from FL.

Yes! I’ve also suggested Guantanamo. Very difficult to access. Very high security. I actually have a great-nephew stationed there. (Currently/previously there, not sure. That side branch of the family is hard core MAGA Trumpers, gun loving white supremacists who can’t wait to move to northern Idaho. I haven’t had much communication with them as of late.)

The hurdle is Guantanamo is Department of the Navy, not a DOJ Bureau of Prisons, or a state prison and different branches of government and even different federal departments aren’t always cooperative with each other. Might be a difficult transfer.

It is rather startling how many loopholes have been exposed by the GOP criminal enterprise in the past four years, along with rules/laws with no enforcement mechanisms, too few qualifications for holding office...things written in a time where honor mattered and the GOP have none...this bill reflects a legislative purpose of the J6 Committee and I am grateful for the start.

Reality is lost on the usually skeptical journalist community. While he was yelling "Stop the Steal" he had already started the conspiracy to STEAL the Executive Branch of the United States Government. With help from his Vice President. And 147 corrupt members of Congress. In the open. In full view of the entire nation. LIVE ON TV!

The Press is lazy. They want to label it the "Insurrection". Which happened. As a tool/action step of the conspiracy to STEAL the Executive Branch of the most powerful government on Earth. How do they miss this fact?

Those 147 members of Congress should find themselves under indictment, for conspiracy. They would have if we didn't have half of our nation's citizens minds being filled with propaganda, hateful ideas & fake conspiracies by right wing media & Vladimir Putin, all of it being financed by narcissistic billionaire traitors, bent on overthrowing democracy.

Were they neutralized, Republicans would be polling where they should be, in the toilet. Free speech is great, but our nation is being victimized by sophisticated mind control efforts by the allied propaganda efforts of a traitorous, corrupt GOP, along with their Russian & billionaire partners. As a nation we have to find a way to make obvious, to even the slowest among us, when we are being victimized by hostile foreign entities, and domestic enemies, like Rupert Murdock, Charles Koch & Donald Trump. The media saturation techniques of these enemies of democracy is threatening to destroy the voice of we the people. Today, Putin's 2nd in command, Medvedev, released a statement, after the House passed Ukraine aid, expressing his wish that the US would devolve into civil war. Putin & Medvedev have been doing a hell of a lot more than WISH for the past 9 years. They have largely infiltrated the Republican party, Putin owns Trump & many of his advisors. Thru the Republican party Putin's policies have gone mainstream within the US government that's left over from Trump. It is long past time to find a way to rid ourselves, and the world, of these two blood thirsty, banana Republic dictators/terrorists/criminals.

Spot on. Bill Browder's books and the Magnitsky Act should be required reading for every journalist covering government and politics. Shameful journalistic dereliction at all levels today. The buy-in of Putin's Anti-America propaganda is astounding. By the American Mass News Media and the MAGA infested GOP. The GOP policy makers have been fully corrupted by the Parasitic Oligarchy/Mafia. When they saw the money and the short term power offered by Trump and Putin, they got in line. Fast! Historic mass dishonor. By so-called "Conservatives"!!!

Thank you for this stark, clarifying, accurate account of these 2 events.

I keep thinking we all have family who saw what we did, ut somehow justify what took place. Again DT ; wasnt there 61 lawsuits in swing states/ Biden win states that got no traction? And after election there’s like 6 wks to contest and election LEGALLY. asking Pence to deny cert was also a break in correct protocol.

How Ma y do not understand that by Dec14th: ( or is it the 15th?), thr decision is sealed. J6 was a formal meeting to count and place it in the historical record.

After this was clearly breaking the law

Do you think stormy weather on Jan 6th would have prompted the same public safety-minded direction from the Combover King? All we know for sure is that the armed people in the crowd, whom Trump directed the Secret Service to leave armed on the DC Elipse that day, didn’t get any prompt to disperse. “Bear spray and bullets” is not a forecast we should EVER hear!
