Trump and the GOP spewed bigotry, sexism or incited violence every day last week-here are the receipts!
This is today's GOP
Every single day from last Sunday to Saturday, GOP leaders Donald Trump, JD Vance or others spewed either hate and/or incited violence. That is not hyperbolic, I’m being literal. In just the past seven days—as I detail below- we’ve seen Republican officials peddle racism, sexism, anti-Semitism, anti-Muslim and anti-Arab hate. Plus Trump and Vance have both made comments that clearly could incite violence.
Some of the remarks below you likely heard. Some not. But there’s little doubt the GOP base has heard these comments and they are part of Trump and his allies non-stop drumbeat of demonization and radicalization.
Here is a sample of the servings of hate and incitement served up by the GOP from Sunday, Sept 15 to Saturday, Sept 21:
1. Sunday:
A. Anti-immigrant bigotry: JD Vance appears on CNN where he repeats the lie that Haitian immigrants are eating people’s pets in Springfield, Ohio. When fact checked by the anchor, Vance admits he’s lying but defends it by saying, “If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention…then that’s what I’m going to do.”
B. VIOLENCE: After the hard to believe assassination attempt on Trump (which oddly is no longer being talked about), Trump told his supporters that the gunman was motivated by Democrats. That is when Trump commented, “Their rhetoric is causing me to be shot at, when I am the one who is going to save the country and they are the ones that are destroying the country — both from the inside and out.” That dangerous message was obviously intended to anger the MAGA base.
2. Monday:
A. VIOLENCE: JD Vance also seeks to incite violence by mimicking Trump’s message that Democrats are to blame for the second alleged attempt telling supporters: “But you know, the big difference between conservatives and liberals is that we have — no one has tried to kill Kamala Harris in the last couple of months, and two people now have tried to kill Donald Trump in the last couple of months.”
3. Tuesday:
Anti-Arab and Anti-Muslim bigotry: GOP Sen John Kennedy at a hearing on combatting hate launched into baseless and vile accusations of terrorism against a leader in the Arab and Muslim American community. Kennedy—based on nothing but bigotry—accused my friend Maya Berry of supporting Hamas with accusations like, “You support Hamas, do you not?” And even after she adamantly denied that and denounced Hamas, he continued to accuse her of supporting terrorism simply to smear her and make the bigots of MAGA happy.
4. Wednesday:
A. Anti-immigrant Bigotry: JD Vance said that he would continue calling Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio, "illegal aliens" despite being in the country legally. Again, facts don’t matter to Vance, Trump or Sen Kennedy. The only goal is feeding the MAGA base the requisite daily required portion of hate to keep them engaged between now and election day.
B. Anti-immigrant Bigotry: Trump ally Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene at a committee hearing joined with other Republicans in ginning up hate of non-brown immigrants. The most notable moment came when a Sheriff testifying pushed back on her fearmongering and demand for a massive wall on the Southern Border. That angered Greene to the point where she yelled out, “Walls are not racist!"
5. Thursday—which was a busy one for GOP hate.
A. Racism, Sexism, anti-Semitism and anti-Muslim hate: CNN released comments posted by Mark Robinson-a Trump ally and GOP gubernatorial candidate in North Carolina—on a pornographic website that were racist, sexist and just plan despicable. Some included Robinson referring to himself as a “black NAZI!,” expressed support for reinstating slavery, called Jews an anti-Semitic slur, demonized Muslims and referred to a woman who claimed she was sexually assaulted as a “white bitch.” Did Trump denounce Robinson who had endorsed for governor and campaigned with many times including just a few weeks ago? Nope. In fact, Trump held a rally Saturday in North Carolina yet didn’t utter a peep about Robinson.
B. Anti-Semitism: Trump attended an event organized by right wing billionaire Mariam Adelson where he made it clear that if he loses the election, he will blame the Jews. Yep, Trump slammed Jewish Americans for not supporting him more and then declared, if he loses in 2024, “the Jewish people would have a lot to do with.” In response, VP Harris’s husband, Doug Emhoff who is Jewish, denounced this dangerous anti-Semitic remark by writing on Twitter: “Trump once again fanned the flames of antisemitism by trafficking in tropes blaming and scapegoating Jews…This is dangerous and must be condemned.”
6. Friday:
A. Sexism: Trump peddles in sexism by referring to MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle—who criticized him—as “dumb as a rock bimbo.” Sexism as well as bigotry plays very well with MAGA.
B. Anti-Arab and Anti-Muslim bigotry: The National Review—a pro-GOP publication--took a page from GOP Sen. John Kennedy’s anti-Muslim hate by publishing a cartoon that depicted Rep. Rashida Tlaib with a pager exploding days after such devices blew up across Lebanon in an attack by Israel on members of Hezbollah. Tlaib—who is Muslim and of Arab heritage—rightfully slammed the cartoon as “inciting more hate and violence against Arab and Muslim communities.”
7. Saturday:
Anti-immigrant Bigotry: Trump at a rally in North Carolina—where he did not condemn Mark Robinson’s hate-- increased his rhetoric demonizing immigrants by claiming they are now attacking “villages and cities” in America. Trump told his cheering fans, “When you look at what’s going on with the migrants attacking villages and cities all throughout the Midwest, in particular right now, but it’s all over.” He then added for bad measure: “A vote for Kamala Harris means 40 or 50 million more illegal aliens will invade across our borders, stealing your money, stealing your jobs, stealing your life.”
What I listed above was all from the past week. I can assure you that if I wrote an article titled, “This week in GOP hate,” I could find entries for each and every day between now and election day. This is what are faced with. And if Trump wins, he and his MAGA bigots will be emboldened to spew even more of this hate and incite violence versus anyone who opposes them.
These are the stakes in 2024!
Jewish people are 2.4% of the population in the US. This Jewish lady is voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. When he loses, it will be his fault, no one else’s.
I honestly do not understand why or how anyone would vote for someone who is part of MAGA.
