It’s inconceivable to me that the media isn’t covering the GOP’s descent into violent, extremist intolerance & fascism more responsibly, considering what generally happens to the press when democratic societies start crumbling. They’ve allowed republicans to shift the Overton window so far to the right that yesterday’s major crimes are portrayed as so much partisan political scrapping. This country’s in a lot of trouble if our major news outlets don’t start playing it straight

I have been thinking the exact same thing! Wouldn't the editorial directors, in conjunction with the owners of these outlets, be alarmed, even purely from a business perspective? To preserve their own existence, they should be reporting on all these developments. They should keep us aligned with the norms, not let the population slip into a gradual haze of acceptance.

In so many ways, it seems we are on the brink of losing the barriers between being a democratic republic, and a fascist, authoritarian state. Now let's line this destabilization of established law enforcement with the recent news about Trump's expressed desire for a private army via Erik Prince. Clearly an extension of his failed efforts in sending in unprepared troops in cities like Portland to overturn local law enforcement. The media is weak sauce. We're only fortunate the domestic fascists so far have been too inept to hold on to power.
