Reading this causes me to feel such deep pain. I am reminded of how Hitler rose to power in Germany by dividing his country through hate and fear. I think we are witnessing the same thing unfold today in America. I was horrified to learn of Hitler’s atrocities when I was in school, and I’m horrified by what I see today from the “Right”. Good people, who are in the majority, need to speak up before it is too late.

What took you so long to realize that Hitler-like leaders are taking over the GOP and therefore taking over the government and duplicate Germany of the 1930's? It's been going on for at least the past 30 years, with the end-result of Donald being put in the WH, and now he is the adoring hero of those who love a Hitler-type leader. I've seen this movie before.

Thanks for this essay. The GOP's embrace of "Eliminationism" bodes very badly for all of us who aren't white, straight, rich, and Protestant. Of course, the bulk of our public school population is now non-white, so they are trying to impose the ideology (through curricula) of white supremacy on public schools. What will happen is that teachers and administrators will be politically harassed, and the students will wisely tune out all BS that doesn't correspond to their lived experiences (former educator here). But for some parts of the GOP, they truly want to wipe Queers and Trans people from the body politic. And then they're coming for everyone else. So, everyone who can, please vote. Our lives depend on YOU making the right choices.

And those same damn Republicans who passed all of those bigoted, hateful, anti-Sharia Law crap, are busy today passing Christo-fascist laws that impose even worse on the people of their states, especially the women, the children and anyone LGBTQ (or loves one or more).

I'll just limit myself to the Sharia Law idiocy for now. (I can't type as fast as you can>)

The idiots and dolts put that into law are absurd beyong words. What does the 1st Ammendment mean other than separation of church and state? Sharia Law is based on Islam. Growing up in Chicago, it was fun to see the Catholic church try to get certain movies banned. Daley said they might have a voice in government, but first "dey gotta pay der taxes on all dat property dey gots.) That was the end of that. BTW: the 14th Ammendment is desgned to make the Bill of Rights applicable to the states. Good just, Dean! Honest Charlie, Absurd Times
