Indeed, Dean, we Americans have much to be thankful for on this day, starting with the fact that freedom is so abundant in our country that a plurality of those freely choosing to vote in this last election then freely chose to surrender that freedom once and for all by electing a freedom-crushing fascist as president. So, yeah, thanks a pant-load, self-abnegating, shared Trump psychotic delusional fellow citizens! You are the actual turkeys!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Let’s see how thankful MAGAs are when they have to wait ten months for their tax refunds, because Trump and friends cut funding for the IRS.

Let’s see how thankful they are when mom isn’t getting her Social Security, and her Medicare co pays go up.

Let’s see how thankful they are when tariffs mean things like soap, laundry detergent and socks cost three times what they do now.

How about wearing this shirt to Thanksgiving dinner? 👇 🤔

I would say we are already in the midst of another civil war, except now there is no way to divide between a north and south. I'm just thankful to have a home for now, a cat and a friend or two to help me struggle with long term disability. I would not have been able to afford a recent surgery if original Medicare did not exist. I know advantage plans would have denied me and more and the dr i needed did not accept it anymore. I feel very forgotten, a segment of the population that is disabled, working some, but still struggling, not cared about by politicians, not even talked about by progressive media, yet still trying to make some difference in the world. It's not just "working" people that need help and matter. Thankful for people like you Dean that speak truth and give us a voice.

Tracy, I work more as an unemployed person than some people working full time paid jobs here in Mississippi, & I’ve done more so, with care to the results, that serve those other than myself.

Your comment is so important & it made me thankful. I wish you deep peace & hope you continue to find it & share your piece/peace with us. 💙

Happy Thanksgiving, Tracy! You are not forgotten here.

It's sad to me to think that history like you just wrote about is in the process of being erased by governors like mine in Florida. Did I say sad? I meant scary, scary that what people like my governor really want is a future where slavery in this country has been forgotten and they really believe the Civil War was about states rights.

Expand full comment

I'm sorry you have to live with that kind of governance. I'm in Texas and what our governor does is scary also. Isn't your governor the one who was saying a while back that there were positive aspects to slavery?

Expand full comment

I believe it had to do with on the job training. It's hard to fathom that that is acceptable in the minds of so many people.

In Texas you do have a governor as bad as mine plus an AG who might be the worst of the three. I think they all are power hungry and eager to make over America and not for the good.

I agree with you completely. Ken Paxton has to be the worst AG of all time, and he seems to have the same ability to slide past legal issues as trump. Paxton is worse, though, because he should know and accept the law, given his education and his job.

It is scary, Lisa, but they will never be able to erase our history. There are too many of us preserving it.

Expand full comment

Even more than scary it's infuriating. What could possibly be behind this move to erase history? Satan ( my name for my governor) says learning about slavery makes whites ashamed, like we shouldn't be? I say when you ignore history you lose the lessons learned from it and it makes it easier to repeat. I wonder sometimes how many Americans would be ok with repeating that part of our history. And then I think, do I really want to know?

I agree! The truth can hurt but it doesn't help to hide from it. You can't grow if you don't face reality. (Not you personally. "One.")

Thank you, Dean, for being one of our leaders. I really appreciate that you are a straight talker, and that we can always count on you to give us good information. The next four years will not be easy, but I plan to do whatever is necessary to survive. There is too much good in my life to just give it up. I am grateful for that and hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. You do help make life a bit saner.

Thank you, Dean, for this newsletter and Lincoln’s proclamation.

It helps us remember our history and why we need to fight to save our democracy.

We have so many, many forces coming against our democracy now, both internally and externally.

We need our better angels in Congress, now more than ever, to finally understand how critical it is to put country ahead of party.

I am thankful this Thanksgiving. First, this is my first Thanksgiving as a retired person and second, I don't have to spend it with my MAGA relatives. I am also grateful for living in a state, CA, with a governor who won't surrender to a Fascist regime.

Happy 🦃 Day Dean!

Thankfully, we are not currently engaged in a civil war--yet. I have no idea what is going to happen, and I abhor violence, but I believe that a civil war is it now a distinct possibility if we want to preserve the Union. Trump and his Republican vulgarians are going to do all they can to destroy our government, so we must be prepared to do whatever is necessary to save the country. I am not calling for violence, but I am calling for people to be aware and prepared. It's either that or lose this great nation to those who would hand it over to Putin.

Thank you Dean. An outstanding article, well worth remembering. The battle begins next spring as the midterm cycle begins. I am praying that until the some of our Representatives and Senators grow some … uh … Living Brain Cells … and start doing the jobs they were elected for. None of which involves being led around by the nose in service to any President. They work for us, not him.

Please let’s encourage everyone to start texting, emailing, phoning their District Rep and Senators and remind them of this fact, or we shall fire them with prejudice.

We all have the power, let’s use it.
