I think Hakeem Jeffries and the other Democrats acted brilliantly. They know quite well who and what Johnson is, but by saving him this way, they saved all of us. I appreciate that they rewarded him for moving the Ukraine aid bill forward. Now Republicans see that the Democrats are flexible when it’s for the greater good — not that Repubs care, but they respect power. And if all this gets MTG out of commission (or at least shuts her up for a few weeks 🤠), more the better.

The "human shield" argument is way past its sell date, if it ever had one. I've come up with an analogy which doesn't seem to faze the "Israel is entitled" gang.
Suppose a powerful gang in South LA decided it really hated white suburbanites and wanted to strike a blow against the legal impediments to being a violent gang. They are financed by the cartels who want to expand drug dealing into suburbia. So they plan and execute a raid into suburban Orange County and rape/murder 1200 folks in their ranch homes. The cops have intelligence of this plan and ignore it. After the attack, the gang members fade into their community, living in apartments with non ordinary citizens.
Should Orange County authorities get the national guard to bomb say Compton into rubble? Should they cut off all aid to those living there on the off chance a gang member might get some food? Should they bomb local hospitals because gang members might be being treated (gang violence being a phenomenon with a high risk of needing treatment).
No one, at least, has tried to say "yes, Orange County should do all that."
The flaw in the analogy is that Orange County hasn't for years blockaded things like hypodermic needles intended for diabetics on the off chance they could be weaponized. Biden’s comments at the Holocaust Memorial were a big miss in my mind. He finally announces cutting off weapons to Israel then punctuates it by saying NOTHING about the fact that Holocaust memorial should remind everyone how wrong it is for Israel to commit genocide against a population of people. He could have acknowledged that this should bring us together to condemn these actions. Instead, he made it sound as if the millions of protesters were attacking Jewish students. (As if some of these “counter-protesters” aren’t plants). I’m sure some harassment exists of innocent students…that’s wrong. But if they are in a counterprotest of the truth…that’s on them.
President Biden could have used the moment in a better way.
Biden is doing the best anyone could do in these harrowing times. He may not have had the perfect remarks ready for the few moments he had to spare navigating this very unsteady ship of state. He had time to prepare for the SOTU and it was extremely well received. Give the man a break; he’s only human.
I have relatives in Israel. I do not believe Israel is committing genocide but I do feel Bibi, the IDF, and the Likud party are. Normal Israelis despise the West Bank settlements that are occupied by religious extremists and they can’t stand Netanyahu. When these settlements began in 1967, there were plenty of Americans flocking to Israel to get a piece of the pie. I always found that disgusting. The Palestinian people have always been dealt a bad hand by their leaders. Many are powerless and that is sad. My hope is that someone leads Gaza with peace in mind but it will be challenging because you know the people feel despair but hatred towards Netanyahu and the Israeli government. The floodgates are opened.
