Once the GOP started this nonsense, they had no choice but to agree to something because the country knows this is a manufactured conflict which they cannot win. The Freedom Caucus will not agree to anything, and they are the ones forcing this fight on McCarthy.

Dean, I agree we have made a significant move forward. Retaking the House in 2024 is essential to make sure many of the benefits people need will be voted on and passed without fear of losing their lives due to budget cuts. Biden did a masterful job along with his White House team and I'm looking forward to younger people help vote out the GQP and GOP, respectively.

I saw you last night with Mehdi on MSNBC. They really should make you a regular so long as you can keep the Substack forum. At any rate, it ws the first time in a long time I actually reacted physically while seeing a TV antyihg -- you were hilarious! It was also the first time I encountered "inshalla" used as an adjective (the inshallah effect, the burning bush). [For those of you wondereing, it mean "God willing" and is in no way any sort of regilious affirmation]. Well, let the Republicans rot, inshallha!

Needs to be reported and repeated every time that the Rs won the House due to gerrymandering and inaction on Voting Rights when Ds had the chance to do something.

Work requirements will cut off the people most in need of help. We just came through a pandemic and Long COVID is real. It can take up to 3 years to get disability benefits. Put a work requirement on the people waiting and they get no help at all. Such paternalistic requirements are cruel and elitist. This is what happens when we elect nothing but millionaires. Even AOC and Cori Bush have never had to fight for disability benefits. Congress needs input from people too sick to run for office, who have actually had to deal with our pathetic social services system.

The louder the right wing screams the more I like what Dark Brandon negotiated. The more I hear of the details the more I see why the right is screaming. JB is a skilled negotiator and took brainless Qevin to the wood shed, beat his ass and Qevin said, "Please, may I have another?" Shelving the fascists ability to take the hostage again next year was the biggest win, IMO. No election year GQP default shenanigans to be of concern, 'tho the right will try it's best to gin up some scandals. It's what they do best; gaslighting, scams, lies and cons. But, we have another 'No Drama' administration, just competent people getting the job done. It's why the media focuses on the right so much. They prefer breathless reporting on chaos and corruption. The Republicans provide piles of that crap.

I wish I could be so confident. I won't celebrate until the deal is actually signed. McCarthy has no backbone and the Sedition Caucus is viscious. I think he'll go back on his word. I also think the Dem Progressive Caucus, with whom I become more irritated every day, won't vote for it. At least Biden can say he tried when he invokes Section 4 of the 14th Amendment, as I still believe will be necessary.
