Not only was SNL courageous to do this, Kamala Harris was once again proving her smarts in being able to reach huge groups of people. She was also proving again her ability to get under trump's skin. I have not yet watched the video - I'll do it when my husband and I can watch it together. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Be sure to watch Weekend Update with Colin Jost and Michael Che.

Thank you for the suggestion. It was very good, as expected. I especially liked the stuff with the microphone - it reminded me of Obama's hands assessing trumps "crowd" size…

It started out slow in my opinion, but there were several LOLs later.

Oh Susan, it is the most fabulous skit I’ve seen on SNL! So clever, fun, inspiring! One reference (comparison) to Mike Pence is gold — wish they’d bring the writers out for a bow lol. Really hope you both enjoy this as much as I did! ⭐️👏🤩

Debserious, we watched it and laughed very hard. I'm afraid I missed the reference to Mike Pence, even watching it again. Clearly it was something the Walz character did. I agree that the writers should get to take a bow. I think they did some wonderful skits with Hillary Clinton, but this one was over the top wonderful. I just might be smiling all day…

Yeah, he laughs at others, at mostly their misfortunes. But of course, that's what assholes do.

I think I'm glad I never have heard him laugh. Seems to me it would be a very jarring sound.

I meant my comment as a reply to David J. Sharp, below.

Apparently, thin skin is the best Trump can offer. A man without a sense of humor cannot laugh at himself … only others.

Expand full comment

I don't think he laughs at others, because I think he doesn't know how to laugh. The only thing I've ever heard him do to others is insult them.

Expand full comment

Sadly, insult is Trump’s “humor.” And scoff his laughter.

Expand full comment

I think you are right, but I hope you'll forgive me for being unable to understand insults as "humor".

Expand full comment

Perhaps that’s because you actually do have a sense of humor, no?

perhaps…

Thanks for your comment. You will love the video. Tastefully done.

The video was definitely wonderful. It gave us a good laugh, so good that we watched it twice. And I love that it had to reach a huge number of voters.

Someone in the main stream Press should remind the Trumpers that they can't change the rules of the game after kickoff. Donald complains "the election will be rigged" "the election was stolen" "Stop the Steal" but he doesn't complain when his favorite football team loses. Everyone in the Media, remind him that he accepted the rules of the game when he entered the campaign. Following the Rules is the American Way!

Expand full comment

Following the rules may be the American Way, but we've seen all too clearly that trump does not believe the rules apply to him. trump will do anything in case it might work.

Expand full comment

Following the rules IS the American Way but this flawed individual doesn’t believe the rules apply to him. Now he wants to shut down all the media outlets he doesn’t like. That’s not how America works. American works by making sure that Kamala Harris is elected president on Tuesday. VOTE BLUE up and down the ballot. Don’t let these traitors ruin our country. It’s not perfect but better than the alternative

Expand full comment

Imho, she will win in a landslide! Women are angry, and they will vote in numbers too big to rig and too real to steal (thank you Glenn Kirschner for that reference). Many of their husbands will vote blue too, because they care about their wives.

We Americans take our football far more seriously than politics. Imagine the uproar if a team owner was found to be bribing referees! Donald buys Supreme Court justices (the referees in government) and the justices rule that the quarterback can do anything he wants. After the game is over, Donald the Loser says the game was unfair and he should be given more points. Even his MAGAs would object if he tried to fix a football game. But not the election!

The FCC said NBC broke the rules if not the law about giving equal time to candidates.

We are not talking about what the candidates say or do, but rather those institutions governed by the FCC. They have greater legal obligations than the candidates. Their licenses can and should be pulled if they break the law or significantly break the rules. At best this at least breaks the rules. The head of NBC just recently stated this shouldn’t and wouldn’t happen. Yet it did. That is clearly election interference whether you like Trump or not. There were times during their Administrations when Trump broke the law, and Biden/Harris broke the law. They were put in their place with decisions from the courts. The FCC is the Court for networks like NBC.

NBC gave the same amount of time for a free fpotus ad during a broadcast of the Nascar race at Martinsville Speedway yesterday, thereby adhering to the equal time rule. Per USA Today.....

"The broadcaster provided Trump airtime Sunday, CNN's Brian Stelter reported, giving the former president an opportunity to directly address viewers during the NASCAR 2024 Cup playoff race."

Shouldn't the supreme court strike down the FCC rule about equal time. Corporations are people, free speech rights should allow networks the freedom to promote any candidate/ cause they want to

I doubt tRump has a favorite football team. I'm quite sure he follows sports about as much as he eats healthy foods.

Oh so 20th Century! Trump, being blessed, follows no rules but what had come out of his mouth two seconds ago.

This is why tffg wants to throw out the Constitution. He has zero understanding of it. He wants to replace it with a comic book with him as the super villain. Good grief, what an ass.

I don't think we should call it the Washington Post anymore or the LA Times or whatever other privately owned news organization surrenders to fascism. Those organizations are made up of the journalists who will be going down with the ship. It's not their fault. Let's call them by their owners. It's the Bezos Post. The NantCapital Times. And of course support their non-profit counterparts.

Expand full comment

Don’t think they’re surrendering to fascism … only self-interest: Praise for Trump will be rewarded if he wins, ignored if he loses because Dems don’t revenge.

Good for SNL. As staid and button-down as NBC is, there's a spine there. And kudos to them for a generally hands-off approach to that 11:30 Saturday slot. SNL has had its ups and downs, but has certainly been there for us in expressing the zeitgeist of our generation. It was so wonderful seeing Kamala on the show last night. Smart move.

The other layer to this is, I feel like they know all their friends/colleagues are getting targeted already: Kimmel and his people are on top of the list, but Meyers and Ferrel are in there too. So this is like…the final “we ride together” before dawn. Which is nice to see.

Notoriously, across the world and throughout recorded history, tyrants have feared laughter and tried to suppress it. And Benedict Donald is no different.

God Bless America, at least the American that opposed tyrants, and God, and the voters, save us from Degenerate Don and his coterie of Putin’s Puppets.

Trump has no sense of humor, so when a comic skit lands he loses all control and makes a fool of himself, thank you SNL you have been a great service to America. For as long as the orange monster terrorizes America SNL will be there to fight with comedy.
