My contention is that GQP MAGA are merely fascists employing the arguments of the confederacy, religious intolerance and sheer ignorance all in order to bring their lord and savior back to the WH. Exactly right. This is what happens when sociopaths are elected -or want to be re-elected. And its also why Biden and his supporters should immediately relabel the debt the "Trump-GOP" debt, spell out the consequences of default for everyone, including MAGAs, and put the pressure on the GOP every day until this is resolved. And if g-d forbit it isn't resolved, Biden's campaign should replay Trump's pro default CNN Town Hall comments on an endless loop and hang blame for the catastrophe squarely around the GOP's neck.
What I don't get is the constitution mandates that the US pays its debts. Every person in congress, be it the House or Senate, takes an oat to uphold and defend the constitution. Therefore, by not raising the debt ceiling, they are abrogating their sworn duties. Why is the media not reporting this?
I also read an analysis (forget where now) that a US default would help Putin. We know there are many republicans (a lot of them being MAGA) who openly support Putin. Combine this with their devotion to Trump, who himself is a russian asset and thinks Putin is geat, and this really begins to make sense why they are doing this. Does not excuse nor condone. Shame on them to put politics ahead of what's good for the nation. This is treasonous behavior.
Jim - Very good point on the members of Congress -they do swear an oath that "I will support and defend the Constitution." Obviously The 14th Amendment guarantee to pay the debts is part of that Constitution they should be supporting!
I enjoy Dean’s Report very much. Sometimes I think tRump was right about MSM. MSM never seems to hold the GOP accountable. Also they let the GOP explain - intentionally misinform - what the debt ceiling is which causes many Americans to really not understand the issue.

THEN the FIST piece of legislation is to repeal the stupid debt ceiling legislation. It's a Wilsonian mess. Next, pass legislation that LINKS abortion and birth control legal protections to the 19th, 14th and 9th Amendments. If women have full citizenship rights, we must have the autonomy to control our biology.
