Yes, he will do the same to his critics & perceived enemies. He got a taste of it while in office.

Recall his promise of retribution? Vote accordingly.

Haley is criticizing drumpf now; next thing you know, she’ll be begging to be his running mate. And, no, he should not be pardoned. That will not heal our country.

Surely, if Trump were to win absolute immunity forever, then that would immediately apply to Biden. And then Trump would need to stop ever closing his eyes, constantly aware and not knowing at what moment he can be “Navalnyed.”

And when “Haley slammed Trump again on Monday saying “Trump is siding with a thug where half a million have been wounded or murdered because Putin invaded Ukraine.” She correctly added about the 2024 GOP presidential frontrunner, “He sided with a dictator who kills his political opponents.” “

Well, with that statement, Haley sure lost the votes of all the Putin Republicans!

I have a morbid curiosity about Putin’s reelection campaign—surely he’s advertising?—and what he’s promising or threatening. “Vote for me,or you know what will happen to you.”

Haters gotta hate. Killers gotta kill??

Expand full comment

Trump would like to have the power to do that; his reaction to Navalny's killing was that he is aware he needs more protection, in the physical sense, from opposition. Whether this will be a type of Pinochet tactic, jail, disappear or outright kill anyone not pledging allegiance to trump, remains to be seen how far he takes this, IF he is reelected. Sadly there is a chance he could become 47. Heaven help us.

I would not be giving Nicky Haley a free pass, as she has failed to answer whether she would support Trump if he were the candidate. Remember during the "debates" she along with the rest, Except for Christie and Hutchinson, raised their hands (sig heil) in support of Trump. Pathetic it has come to this.

I never thought Navalny would be able to bring democracy to Russia but I also never thought Putin would dare kill him now. Besides being on Amnesty International List, the world knew who Navalny was and was watching. His death confirms that Putin will stop at nothing, will do anything, to silence critics. His evil will be a roadmap for tRump.

Putin killed him because he knows he can get away with anything, and "elections" are coming up in Russia (what a joke). Putin wants all opposition quiet during this time.

Libs take his rhetoric literally but MAGA sees it as him pushing lib buttons and laugh, he has a 4yr record of button pushing and you guys still fall for it... 50% of the country disagrees with your predictions... You lefties were making the same dire predictions in 2016... And yep, thats why Putin just endorsed Biden, because Biden is weak. Plus what he said is TRUE: We DO kill, etc...

Yo, Dean wtf is Chris Hayes & Nicolle Wallace? I’m about to give up on MSNBC

Great points Dean. Trump is never silent. Our most difficult fight is not just against what trump says but with the vast media coverage he receives by doing so. There are NO trustworthy republicans! And we are very dependent on Substack and Free Speech TV to get us honest reporting. It seems that tic toc is also heavily influencing the younger crowd with constant Biden bashing. The last vote against a ceasefire in GAZA doesn’t help Biden either. Especially since the US was a tiny minority in that vote against it.

Despite it all, we can choose between Putin style governing or a way to get past the Republican- Fascist-loving party.

T-Rumps Maga Minions are the deplorables that Hilary called out. T-Rump is Putin's useful idiot. And he is an idiot, becoming more insane by the day. His malignant narcissism allows him to bypass all social norms and taboos. His egotism is legendary, and his sense of self is beyond description. He compares himself to Alexei Navalny because Navalny is getting more attention than he is, and he can't stand being overshadowed by anyone, except Putin. What does Putin have on T-Rump that makes T-Rump so servile to him? Probably Novachok, or death by other means.

I call him T-Rump because he’s the biggest asso since T-Rex, and those tiny hands and hu-uge mouth confirm the lineage.

T-Rump, when your whole life is a lie, just go ahead and die.

Why do we care and give so much importance at what trumpet has to say about the Navaldy's "murder?

Please explain . It wasn't surprising his remarks about it.

Two things, MAGA “snert”: first, do you have the intelligence or critical thinking abilities to actually ask what Putin has done to his critics, when it’s completely obvious to literally ANYONE that’s been paying attention for the last, oh, 20 years or so just what he does to his critics, even when Dean highlights the more high profile 6 or 7? Seems to me like you’re as much of a traitor as Trump was when he believed Putin’s spin on EVERYTHING instead of listening to the entirety of the United States intelligence community.

Which further highlights your comments about what YOU consider to be “Republican In Name Only”. I remember when the Republican Party wasn’t a cult of personality, when Republicans were concerned about “government overreach” into our personal lives, wanted smaller central government offset by greater local control, understood that we were in a battle for global domination of freedom and Democracy vs Soviet/Russian aggression, and stood up for our allies and their defense. Does ANY of that sound like MAGA “thinking”? Who’s actually the “RINO” here?

Don’t bother answering, as it might strain the 17 brain cells you have remaining. Even better, you should consider taking the RINO Abraham Lincoln’s advice: “Better to be silent and thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.”

Good god, no wonder Trump loves “the poorly educated”!

“Russian collusion has been proven false”? Really? Where did your superior “research” come up with that? Have you ever read the ACTUAL Mueller report? No, of course you haven’t, because it’s never been made available to the American public, and you’re more than happy to believe former AG Bill Barr’s spin on it, instead of Robert Mueller’s testimony UNDER OATH where he said specifically the DOJ’s standing memo is that they would not prosecute a sitting President, but that no one should ever believe that meant Trump was innocent.

I’d say you’re easily duped but there’s more: you believe what the lying killer Putin says about his preferences for America’s President? Putin knows precisely how to win the American news cycle and give Trump Cult Members something they can talk about. Good god, you’re stupider than I thought, and my opinion of your intelligence was already extremely low!

Why don’t you go back to Xitter, where your ugly trollness is more appropriate, and where you never have to back up your “beliefs” with (checks notes) actual FACTS?

Spot on Larry! 😄👍🏼. The trolls are on overtime but rarely have a grasp of the facts and give themselves away. Snot (or whatever his name is) believes Putin didn’t intentionally pretend to side with Biden is utterly laughable! These Fox news watches really don’t have the numbers, hence the trolling.

Of all the Substack writers I read, Dean seems to get the most trolling.

Maybe it’s because you can be a free subscriber and still comment: lots of writers have shifted to paid-subscribers only in the comments, as it minimizes the trolling (though it doesn’t end it entirely. I suppose that’s ANOTHER sign that the economy is doing better: when low-income MAGA Cult Members have enough “disposable income” that they’ll pay $50 - $80 a year to troll each writer!).

And I notice that all of the “snert” comments have been deleted: I wonder if that was Dean, as I can’t imagine a troll suddenly becoming self-reflective and cleaning up after themselves…. 😆

I do block the dumbest trolls! I have no patience for MAGA morons!

Larry, good to know snert is out of here. I see below there is a comment by Dean that he will remove trolls..that’s great. They provide no debate, no contribution. It’s not a difference of opinion, they are on here to distract & annoy. Enjoyed reading your responses to the troll.

Apparently, you’re good at Google searching but not ACTUALLY reading what you’ve linked to!

As I stated above in very plain English (using a 3rd grade vocabulary so that you could follow along), I wrote that “you’re more than happy to believe former AG Bill Barr’s spin on it”.

And lo and behold, what was in the very FIRST paragraph of the 2019 NPR article you linked? “The special counsel did not find that President Trump or his campaign colluded with the Russian government - that according to a summary of the conclusions delivered by the Attorney General William Barr…”. And then goes on to discuss in depth 2 ways in which the Russians DID help Trump in the 2016 election.

Let me break this down even further for you: “that according to a summary of the conclusions…by Attorney General William Barr” is PRECISELY the “spin” I described. Mueller himself testified that while DOJ policy precluded him from indicting a sitting President, that did NOt mean they found him innocent.

Given that you can’t even comprehend anything deeper than a headline, intelligent conversation is not possible with you. Frankly, if you pay for a subscription to Dean’s column just so that you can spread your willful ignorance, maybe you should consider some serious therapy or another purpose for your life.

I’m done wasting time with you.

What boggles the mind is the fact there are intelligent people who support Trump-o-loco, in spite of the outwardly apparent mental illness, lack of self control and hate and vitriol the man spews out daily. This cannot be our future...VOTE BLUE, the fate of the free world depends on it.

Expand full comment

The intelligent people who support Trump are:

1) the obscenely wealthy who have just as little regard for democracy and the people’s welfare as Trump, and only want to accrue more wealth through further tax cuts and “drill baby drill.”

2) the christofascist right whose sheer cynicism allows them to see Trump as simply a tool to help them implement their long-planned theocratic dominion over the US.

3) those who fall in both of the above camps.
