Garland surrendered to trump when he failed to arrest him on the day he was sworn in and instead , allowed him to roam the country for four years spewing hate, lies and grievance. Biden surrendered to trump the day he appointed Merrick Garland.
I believe the same, one of the requirements of his appointment was that he would not indict and prosecute Donald Trump. The most convenient way to do this would be to run out the clock. The Supreme Court completed the task of protecting him. This whole spectacle with the special counsel was a charade. There were no mistakes, no negligence, no incompetence only the completion of a plan put in place early on. What will come next is truly terrifying.
And the craziest part is, the new Trump admin is going to completely obliterate anything else that Biden's admin ever did. The infrastructure, chips and science acts, all that stuff will be immediately scuttled and Biden's 4 years will barely be a blip in the history books (if there are still history books). This could have endedup spectacularly different than what it's going to be
Garland is the very worst pick of Joe Biden’s career and I am an infuriated citizen that dumptrump’s criminality against our nation is allowed to get casually tossed aside. It is about to get so very much worse and these two men have been cowards around dumptrump. Just furious.
It's also being tossed aside by the willingness to let trump be sworn in as president without getting the insurrection stuff removed. (Sorry my brain, my vocabulary have deserted me.)
IMHO, Garland should have appointed a special counsel immediately upon the failure of the 2nd impeachment. Instead, Garland and the DOJ did what the American court system does, punish the little people and allow those with wealth and influence, delay and obstruct. It’s a classic illustration of the there are indeed two justice systems, one for the rich and the other for the rest of us.
Like Leona(?) Helmsley said years ago, "Only the little people pay taxes". And it appears that 'only the little people have to follow the laws of the land'.
Consistent with the fact that none of those who caused the 2008 financial meltdown were ever charged or held responsible in the least. In fact, the “solution” ensured that they would profit handsomely.
Stan: if you anticipate that the massive change you are referring to is going to be the result of pressure from the people and a rising political opposition to the President-Elect, you are stuck in dreamland. The only massive change you will see is the wholesale elimination of the middle class, the complete dominance of the wealthiest among us, prices that keep most citizens in obescience, and the physical deterioration of everything but the most protected and well guarded enclaves of the one percent!
No, the massive change isn’t coming from below, it’s coming from above. Most religion says “everything is God’s will, submit.” Very very wrong. Put simply, God says he is totally disgusted with mankind’s cruelty and is carefully noting those who struggle against it without becoming cruel themselves. This experiment in self rule He has permitted (because we [mankind in general, not everyone] chose it) is reaching its critical point. He promised long ago to cut it off just before it self destructs (proving His warning that it would end badly), and rescue those who have respected Him. Then guide us into rebuilding this beautiful planet into the world it was meant to be.
I could quote scriptures but I’ll limit it to one: Matthew 24:7-14.
Of course if you have been persuaded by the propaganda that we are alone in the universe and no one out there knows or cares about us, what solution do you believe in?
I'll bet president Hoover was never prosecuted for the great depression, either. I don't know how many people profited from that, but I know my life was affected by how things were as my mother was coming of age during that time.
Massive change did come to end the gilded age, but it took WWI, the 1918 pandemic, a growing Union movement, a socialist movement , a communist movement, the 1929 stock market crash, a landslide victory for FDR, and finally the New Deal. While all that was going on fascism swept through other nations. The 2026 election cycle may be only a down payment on ending the billionaire takeover. But I do believe that ultimately Americans will reject plutocracy, again.
Unfortunately what you are saying is true. Who is Garland really? Whose side is he on? Definitely he is not on our democracy’s side. How does he live with himself. How ridiculous to have two memos from the DOJ give us a criminal president and allows him more criminal activity. Garland says no man is above the law is a blatant lie.
And yet a slim majority of Americans voted for Trump and think Trump was unfairly prosecuted because of the torrent of disinformation flowing through our media. The real problem is that he was reelected. And now we must see how to counter what his administration will impose upon us.
I do not think that the American people will stand for tyranny and a tyrant king for too very long. The people, even those who voted for the convicted felon and sex offender, will grab their 'pitchforks' and some tar, feathers, and a rail, and send that fascist pig to the poor house ( and maybe still to prison, hopefully ) in total humiliation. Though I may be giving the American people too much credit.
Agreed. We must break down the problem into bits and pieces. Think big, and act in small, steady, focused ways everyday. Don’t support the machine that supports the incoming administration; their food is money, cut them off, they’ll turn on each other, it’s baked in.

The problem I have is with our justice system in general. The problem I see is that there are way too many loopholes and ways to get around and delay justice. Most of us don't have the resources necessary to do this. But, if you have the money to hire a team of attorneys and to withstand a lengthy process, then you can get away with ANYTHING! Another thing is the so called norms and traditions shit surrounding our government officials, especially the president. They need to be real and enforceable laws. This MF is being allowed to get away with all this shit because there is no way legally to stop him. Meanwhile, the Republicans are exploiting every single avenue they can to take over power and there isn't a damn thing we can do to stop it. We need be willing to exploit those same avenues. We are going to have to stop playing nice. Fight fire with fire. We need to walk right up to the line of legality just like they do. I mean, did no one see this shit coming at some point? Did we really think that there would never be a villian to come forward who was willing to take advantage of every single weakness in our system and use it against us? Really??? Meet DONALD J. TRUMP!!!
I'm not sure about having the dems exploiting power. That seems to me to be playing down and dirty like the GOP does, and I for one, don't want to be part of that. I do agree that they should step up and fight.
Merrick Garland, thank you for singlehandedly transforming the Department Of Justice into the Department Obstructing Justice. Our incoming nightmare of an administration will surely enjoy this precedent - at the expense of, well, everyone. Nice work.
I read your article from 2021 and became a fan of yours from that point on. You never pulled your punches the many times you appeared on Joy's show. I'm pleased but not surprised that you continue to be a clarion voice for those of us in the resistance. I hope you know just how much people like me appreciate your honesty and integrity 👏🏾👊🏾 we'll go down swinging with you if we must Dean! You're a champion and you give us hope that we will win this fight in the end by sticking together and standing strong 💪🏾 💙 thank you!
I would not disrespect the honorable President Joe Biden; he has done a lot of fine work, and he respects OUR constitution. When HE realized he could no longer be as sharp & efficient as he needed to be, he took the intelligence & noble action of relinquishing his position in hopes of continuing the nation's good Democratic flow, that is leadership from a fine stateman.
Our Constitution was formed out of a Revolution against tyranny and was meant to protect our lives and liberty from a tyrant. Now Biden is peacefully transferring power to a tyrant who will obliterate the Constitution. A tyrant, who already broke his oath of office and led an insurrection against the American government, won an election. But our Constitution mandates the transfer of power from one president to the next under the presumption that the newly elected president will uphold his oath to the Constitution. We know trump will violate his oath again and he should not be allowed to take power and rule over us like a mad king! This violates the entire purpose of our Consitution and the creation of America itself!
So true. Constitutionally, he should not be allowed to even have run for president, let alone serve again as president. A complete travesty and usurpation of our constitution and the end of our Great Experiment in Democracy that lasted for 248 years, costing much bloodshed and lives to hold on to and protect, all on account of one scumbag, Donald J (for jackoff) Trump. And he had assistance from the maga traitors, most Republican voters, and all the Republicans in the Congress to help him with dismantling Democracy so he can be the one and only Leader of the States of America. We will never, in our lifetime, be the UNITED States of America again.
Garland rolled over and didn't even mind that no one scratched his belly, he's that good a boy. Although, there's no doubt here that he gets plenty of treats for his dutiful service within this two party two-step.
Garland surrendered to trump when he failed to arrest him on the day he was sworn in and instead , allowed him to roam the country for four years spewing hate, lies and grievance. Biden surrendered to trump the day he appointed Merrick Garland.

So true and disappointing on both counts Both men living by 1950s norms There is no aisle to reach across
Yes Biden did just that.
Garland is the very worst pick of Joe Biden’s career and I am an infuriated citizen that dumptrump’s criminality against our nation is allowed to get casually tossed aside. It is about to get so very much worse and these two men have been cowards around dumptrump. Just furious.
I never would have imagined that our nation would capitulate to a convicted felon of the lowest moral character!!!
It's also being tossed aside by the willingness to let trump be sworn in as president without getting the insurrection stuff removed. (Sorry my brain, my vocabulary have deserted me.)

Where’s Perry Como when you need him: “Dream along with me, I’m on my way to the stars. “
Hope you are right!!

This is HEARTBREAKING and such a colossal mistake. COLOSSAL!
Let’s it overlook the Supreme Court’s role in this miscarriage of justice.

This is a travesty
Travesty is the perfect word.
😢
Why did Biden appoint Garland in the first place and why didn’t he fire him when it was obvious he wasn’t going to prosecute the treasonous Trump?
Because Biden turned out to be a pathetic old fart!

So sad. But I will never give in! Or give up.
Taking the long view, apparently it's good that, thanks to ol' Mitch, Garland wasn't confirmed to the Supreme Court after all. At least now he's done.
Garland would have been a middle of the road intellect on a crazy SCOTUS. But he would have done WAY less damage there than as the AG.
Pathetic.
Garland rolled over and didn't even mind that no one scratched his belly, he's that good a boy. Although, there's no doubt here that he gets plenty of treats for his dutiful service within this two party two-step.
