My bet is that SCOTUS does let Trump off the hook on the 14th Amendment case, not just because of Trump, but because they know that if it applies to Trump it applies to 147 MAGA House Republicans and 14 MAGA Senators. It would be a total disaster for the GOP, at least in the short term. They will not have the foresight or the wisdom to see that while it will make for an ugly few years for the GOP, it may be the only way to save the party long term.
No, that is the result of watching a highly partisan and ideologically driven Court in action. Think about it. Consider the outcomes of cases since Trump's appointees arrived (if not since Roberts was elevated). Fill me in on any case with major political or social impact that was decided based on sound legal reasoning. Just one.
SCOTUS interprets the laws and provides the ruling. Their actions are not based on what will happen if they provide a ruling that is unpopular or that it may upset a particular party. I don't like many of the results from them but I would never claim that they work outside the law. Your claim that their only reason to rule against the actions of CO and ME is for the "fact" that others in Congress will also be guilty/prosecuted in the same manner... which is totally baseless and worthy of CT recognition.
This Court does not interpret the law, it creates a version of the law that fits its predetermined ideological position. They also ignore the concept of standing, the plain language of the First and Second Amendments and more. Have you read any of their decisions in the past two years?
Maybe long prison stays will make some of these Magats reconsider the error of their stupidity and gullibility. May all these creatures receive everything they deserve, good and hard.
