Agree. I’m tired of hearing how we have to “understand” these MAGA’s.
They are cruel, despicable, selfish racists. Have they no one in the armed services? Have they no one who’s disabled, no minority or gay friends?
Apparently not.
I, for one, am done trying to understand them. I want nothing more to do with them. My only hope is that they go the way of the dinosaurs sooner rather than later.
I'm with you. The MAGAs are garbage people consumed by hate, racism, sexism and low self-esteem. As far as I am concerned they can all go to hell, the sooner the better.
But goddammit all, we still get endless reports of old white men in diners who have opinions. I for one, do not give one half of a shit what they think. When do we get reports of women in coffee shops who are still pissed that Trump stole the election from Hilllary and killed Roe just for spite? When does the New York Times ask me, a progressive from the days of Gene McCarthy, what I think? And when do I get to tell some fucking MAGA bully to fuck off when he insults me, my children or my grandchildren because they care about more than themselves?
Amen!! Trump would be nothing more than a failed, pretend businessman if there weren’t millions of people who accept all his vileness, or actually revel in it. And each speech he gives is worse than the one before it. He’s sinking lower and lower, and the cheers just keep on coming.
The only lens I can possibly see them and understand them through is Terrorism Studies with "grievance politics." Their core grievance is that the white Christian man who is privledged, is having his entitlement eroded away. I feel no sympathy for them, because if they were running the country (Canada), they would want me dead. (as I'm a disabled female.)
The deplorables are a creation of three major groups 1) corporate leaders who have become morbidly wealthy 2) extreme religious leaders seeking personal wealth as,they prepare for the Second Coming and 3) the NRA fueled by SCOTUS who worship the Second amendment.
The average worker is financially losing ground while the 2%ers do everything in their power to increase stock prices and bonuses. These oligarchs have decided that they deserve to use their wealth, no matter who actually did the hard work for it.
People feel defeated because the mythical “American Dream” is a fantasy. But oddly enough they don’t hate their favorite symbol of wealth Trump, even though he certainly is a fraud and a con who HATES them. They rever him because he is their carrot on a stick and their savior. Every other leader has failed them and the mentality ill orange one “speaks their language f hate and division. Just like Trump, they feel that someone else is always at fault.
Culture changes are overrunning their beliefs. Church attendance is down while “evil” has consumed the country. They are literally trying to save a society that only existed on black and white tv. Sheriff Andy and his all-white cast are no more. We’ve opened up our doors and hearts to more diversity and that makes them very unsettled.
America’s gun obsession is derived from fear and sadness. Bullets make them stronger and they feel they can protect themselves when “they” come to get them. The world is a scary place for them - where they feel all the societal and cultural changes are wiping and their beliefs out. It’s self-preservation for MAGA.
Reverence for the old ways like confederate flags, women who know their place, parents who always know better, communities that move at a slower pace with no gays or trans people and and a country where gas is $1.29 a gal and you could actually afford steak for an after church barbecue.
These people feel like no one hears them, no one cares about them and the world has become scarier. Trump (for reasons the rest of us cannot fathom) was seized up as a chosen one. MAGA cult has crossed the line into a place where their ignorant beliefs and hatred are their manifestations of strength and power. Stopping the cult leader Trump will be a big step in reducing the chaos.
But in my humble opinion sending Trump to jail won’t turn the tide on our country’s division. It will just give us one less front to battle. We have to all step up and become activists working together for love, peace, equality and equity.
It actually started with Goldwater, whose failure prompted the Republican Party to embrace Nixon's "Southern Strategy" of calling all the Dixiecrats to come join the Republican Party. It first metastasized with Reagan, though—and riddled the entire RNC the cancer that is Donald Trump.
::Sheriff Andy and his all-white cast are no more.::
Is now the right time to say that Sheriff Andy and Opie both publicly endorsed Obama...?
Shortly before the 2008 election, Ron Howard starred in and directed a longish Internet ad about turning back into Opie Taylor and Richie Cunningham to get both "Paw"'s and Fonzie's Obama endorsements. It was a beautiful thing, even if Henry Winkler trying to look like Arthur Fonzarelli now looks more like a Mob loan shark! 😂
It is true that it’s his followers are as much at fault as he is. In some ways worse. If a large group of them repudiated him, he would lose his strength.
Trump is a coward, as most bullies are. I bet Little Marco never served either.
How a person cannot or will not see his complete corruption and vileness is beyond me. It speaks to a deep deep character deficiency to me. I viewed him with disgust as a young mom on the west coast back a couple decades, then as a charlatan on The Apprentice, which I never watched. The things he said on the campaign trail in 2016 left me flabbergasted. Last but not least, I am the mother of two vets. Out of all the disgusting things about him, that one feels most personal. I agree with President Biden, Trump is one sick f*ck. Anyone in his camp is, too.
(Other than the very wealthy) people who support Trump either don't understand that he is the kind of person he is, or don't care (seeming to suggest they themselves relate, and are somewhat similar, to him —which is astounding to me). His whole life he has been an arrogant, moral degenerate, thief, con man, obnoxious bully, bigot and criminal —a thousand times worse than the typical politician, whom everyone loves to "trash."
The morbidly rich couldn't care less that Trump is a pig, a fascist and a tool of Putin. he will give them tax cuts and deregulation and that's good for their wallet. And nothing matters more to them than the size of their wallet. (After all, for many of them it makes up for their tiny dick)
Trump appeared recently here in Harrisburg, PA and the Farm Show Arena had more empty seats than when the Farm Show held other obscure events and less than he'd ever admit to. His speech was a pathetic NRA sponsored diatribe of platitudes and delusions only cheered by the most hard core followers who attended.
::it’s not cruelty by Trump in a vacuum. He serves it up because his base loves it....Again, it’s not just Trump—his base is just as dangerous and despicable.::
Oh, yeah, though I'd think it's dangerous to have President Biden or anybody closely connected to his campaign say it.
WE should say it—every chance we get.
WE should remind the rest of America that Trump's MAGAt base is dangerous and despicable.
WE should make the MAGAts whine like the cowardly little punks they are—then call them chickenshits and make them whine some more.
and this is incredibly sad. to think there are so many without empathy. seriously i say this. the only way people can feel they have skin in the game is to attack all who may not agree with them. how very, very, tragic. i’ve a feeling this has been the case for too long in our existence. we need to remember we, as a species, have not been here all that long. yeah, we got a big brain. so what. and of course, ego always gets in the way. we, collectively, admire all that individualist grit, but when it gets down to it we would not exist without community. it has been how we have survived for millenia. were we not to gather to protect one another we, as a species, would not exist. we are not particularly special, there are other species better at certain things than we, yes, we are proficient at exploiting all that we know and can do. not really all that admirable considering all the consequences. we, if not at the tipping point, are perilously close to it…the only way, thinks i, that we will be able to survive as a species is to recognize that we are an extension of our planet, politics and all. this is not hippie-dippie bullshit, she says. maybe people can think we can pick a reality and then go with it. this is our reality. a polarity that is not really revolutionary. a learned person i knew in an earlier life once said to me that revolution is only attainable with polarity. she was born in china at the turn of the 20th century to missionaries. this is all part of that. history. we learned to write to remember. if we remember then we can change. i think this is part of us, as a collective, learning. i hope we learn. i am just sharing my thoughts upon reading all this and the comments. i marched for civil rights, i marched against the war in viet nam. i lament having to deal with this at my age. life, eh?
It used to be that I could discover that a friend supported a different candidate than I was and all would still be right with the friendship. Now a discovery of a friend being a tfg supporter causes me to reexamine the relationship, given the fact that the person and I no longer disagree on policies but on basic human decency and the very tenets of Democracy. Not to mention their lack of critical thinking skills.

I remember my cousin, a MAGA Trump Supporter, saying after January 6th, they're not all bad. Boy, was she wrong.
I had a friend tell me that the DOJ should let all the insurrectionists go. That it wasn’t a big deal🙄
Don't want to tell you your business, but...I think you need better friends.
I have no pity for people who want me and people like me, dead.
We can understand their psychopathology, pity them, and still disagree with their contradictory notions and destructive actions.
I understand their psychopathology, and all I have for them is contempt and loathing.

I agree with everything you said. This started with Reagan

Was referring to the stereotypes of the era but love that these actors didn’t get caught in their television roles. Thanks for sharing.
I know, but isn't it great that Sheriff Andy Taylor is an Obama Democrat? 😁
His sheep love him because he have them permission to be the worst version of themselves.
If Nikky turns around and endorses him she is no better.
Which she will do, you know it, I know it, she knows it. There is no political future for her if she doesn't.
She should become a democrat
No way she would change parties. And besides, 99% of what she stands for is toxic to most Democrats, even in South Carolina.
It is true that it’s his followers are as much at fault as he is. In some ways worse. If a large group of them repudiated him, he would lose his strength.
Trump is a coward, as most bullies are. I bet Little Marco never served either.
It is not only his following. It’s elected officials who should know better.
I include them when I talk about his “followers”.

Agreed100%!

Ahem . . . Sure; I agree! —I think you're basically right about the "morbidly" rich!
Trump appeared recently here in Harrisburg, PA and the Farm Show Arena had more empty seats than when the Farm Show held other obscure events and less than he'd ever admit to. His speech was a pathetic NRA sponsored diatribe of platitudes and delusions only cheered by the most hard core followers who attended.
trump is a carnival barker! He incites others to do his vile bidding. What a horrid person he is.
Horrid, repulsive, despicable, disgusting,and reprehensible.
And you are being nice :)
And he gave them permission and power
The MAGA movement is a domestic terror movement and should be treated as such. What a repulsive bunch of individuals.
Police ranks are infested with maggats. Those 'blue line' flags didn't come from nowhere.
The MAGA base is the cult the shadowy GOP owners built to serve greed. trump stole it from them.
::it’s not cruelty by Trump in a vacuum. He serves it up because his base loves it....Again, it’s not just Trump—his base is just as dangerous and despicable.::

One of the best lines I have ever read - “when Trump slithered down the escalator”. It’s perfect!
Not like he can walk down stairs without a burly Marine to help him
