I am so grateful for all those people leading the charge against a moronic fascist coming into office—people like Obeidallah, Reich, Merchan, the Lincoln Project and others who are standing strong and clear-eyed and giving me hope.

Yeah hopefully they don’t flip on us like those Meidas Touch boys. Have you looked at their YouTube channel lately? They were advertising “Trump silver” in their videos. Traitors and grifters.

Expand full comment

I do not think they have flipped - I think its a case of advertising slots being purchased by advertising companies with clients & then whatever shows up shows up - IE no control by the hosting program on what shows up !

Expand full comment

They have no control over the advertising on their videos; that is purely YouTube's decision.

Expand full comment

Thanks for confirming this.

That’s exactly why I have cancelled my subscriptions to their You Tube channel and their Substack. Not going to waste money when they talk out of both sides of their mouths about being independent. I couldn’t be more disgusted with them.

Expand full comment

That’s YouTube’s advertising you’re seeing, not MTN. Medias is a solid, growing voice that we need now and will certainly rely on in the not too distant future.

Expand full comment

Yes ~ I read that in earlier comments. I wish that mattered to me. I just don’t see independence without at least a total lack of control over everything about the presentation of the message.

I remember watching MSNBC in the days leading up to the election, sickened to see political ads for Trump. This is the world we live in, advertisers buy airtime. If we use YouTube as a way to see content, we also see advertisers. I do anyway, as I don’t pay for their subscription. It’s sad to not financially support a growing, solid media outlet because of the advertisers, especially when MTN makes it a point to let us know, always and often, that they aren’t supported by corporate donors or advertising.

It's refreshing to see some are not bowing down to trumputin and kissing (asss) the ring. So many seem to have, it is hard to belief there is so much fear of retribution, but here we are.

So much respect for Merchan. I still just can’t seem to believe or reckon that this is where we are. I guess the children need to burn their hands on the stovetop. Ugh.

"Burn their hands on the stovetop"?

Sharon, I just mean the MAGAs are like defiant children who don’t listen to their parents’ warning… instead, they put their hands right in the stovetop and get burned. If they’d only listened to reason… ugh.

Right. Robert Hubbell shared some words today from an article written by Rebecca Solnit along these lines, written in 2020. If you get a chance, check it out… Not being able to go in 50/50 with a Nazi and such. There is no compromise.

Merchan definitely did the right thing, and he is courageous to do so. I fear that this guilty verdict will fuel trumps plan to stay in the presidency forever. Still glad to see this judge stand up to the tyrant trump.

Bannon is already mounting a theory that the mango wanker is deserving of a THIRD term because the Constitution doesn't expressly prohibit that in circumstances of non-consecutive office holding; the President is "therefore" permitted to have another, third term in office. Of course it's a completely incorrect analysis of the Constitution, but when did that ever stop those ignoramuses from promoting something. 🤬

As an aside is there a better British word than wanker?

I have a hunch that the Fat Fascist Pig won't even be around in a couple of years. He more than likely will be committed to a psych ward or he'll just drop over dead from all the cholesterol in his veins. Or.......he might trip and fall down a flight of golden stairs. Ivana would smile from the beyond.

I will never understand why so many are eager to kiss Trump's ring. What is the hold that he has over people? It's baffling. I look at Trump and all I see is a fat, foolish, incompetent, petty little man who is about the very last person in the entire world worth respecting. He is a cheat, a liar, a sex offender, a fraud, an insurrectionist, a traitor, and a malignant narcissist. Why on earth would anyone want to give him the time of day? Kudos to Judge Marchan, who is an American hero.

We cannot fully and deeply fathom Trump and his acolytes as leader and followers of a personality cult without deeply grasping the pandemic of mental pathology, in the form of mass shared psychosis, any more than Hitler and German Nazism of the 1920s-40s can be understood without perceiving the pandemic symbiosis of human evil and mass psychopathy writ large.

Judge Merchan is so courageous. We need so much more of this. The new administration is like a bunch of spoiled children. If they don’t like something they go and “tell”. Where is the Democratic leadership screaming from the mountaintop that all this retribution is wrong? Now they’re going after Liz Chaney for doing her job. Is this the kind of country we want? Keep shouting Dean. We’re with you ! ! !

The Democrat leadership wanted this. Did you notice they didn’t bother even bother fixing the post office in the four years that they could have fixed the post office? Is it any wonder that the ballots didn’t make it where they were supposed to?

His hands were tied on DeJoy. President’s don’t have direct power over federal agencies that have a board of Governors.

“The board directs "the exercise of the power" of the Postal Service, controls its expenditures, and reviews its practices and policies. It consists of 11 members; 6 are requisite to achieve an ordinary quorum. Of the 11 board members, 9 are the presidentially appointed governors (serving 7 years each) appointed 1 is the postmaster general, and 1 is the deputy postmaster general. The 9 governors elect the postmaster general, the chairman of the board as well as the USPS inspector general. The governors and the postmaster general elect the deputy postmaster general. No more than five governors may belong to the same political party. The board also has the power to remove all of these officers.” From wikipedia

McConnell fucked it up just like he did the SCOTUS by obstructing confirmations:

“In December 2014, the extended term of Mickey D. Barnett was to expire, while the Senate had still not confirmed five nominees submitted by then-president Obama. …

After December 2014, There were not enough members to have a quorum”

Republicans have been on a mission to fuck us all for a long time now!!!

Expand full comment

As I understand it, the board members have terms and cannot be replaced until their terms are up. The postmaster general has to be voted out by the board. That's why you have not seen as much action as we would all like. On top of that, I think the board members require congressional confirmation, which is difficult with the current republican congress.

Merchan has zero incentive to cave to Trump if he didn't cave in the face of all the earlier threats and abuse. Now, what needs to happen is that he should bide his time until January 2029. Right before Trump is set to leave office, or better yet, the day after, sentence him to the maximum jail time and send the marshals to pick him up. Confine him in Rikers pending appeal. There must be a nice padded protective cell for an 83 year old with dementia.

So happy to hear positive news. Who is going to protect Merchan and his family now? Who is going to stand with him now? Thank you Judge Merchan for having our backs, for doing the right thing and for doing your job courageously in spite of facing the biggest bullies on the planet!!!

This is such a rare exception, great to see, but I'm afraid most Americans are truly cowards and won't risk life and liberty to stand up to Trump. Protests like we see in other countries don't happen here, because we're all lazy, worship money and idolize violence. I was fortunate to live overseas a brief time as a young person, and when i returned i cried, like going from freedom back into the cage.

Judge Merchant is for sure an exceptional example, but you need to have more faith in our country. Many among us have taken much for granted, but the right wing-nuts are poking the bear. When she awakens she’s going to protect her young “more fiercely than anyone has ever seen before”!

European countries are very small, geographically confined areas which apparently naturally held their very distinct separate populations in check.

Get out a real map. Take a long look at the huge land mass named USA. Remember we are a burgeoning nation-of immigrants from a few hundred years ago!

Talk about challenges to encourage cohesive activity on any job/task/plan… our Constitution has given us an historic document that trues to keep us glued to an idea, an independent yet coherent plan of action!

“Trump wrote that Judge Merchan hopes to silence Trump so, “I cannot expose his and his family’s disqualifying and illegal conflicts." Pure projection on part of the dump. A reminder that cannot be stressed enough, if we listen to the dump backwards, everything he says is a confession of his own crimes. When he speaks, he’s pointing to himself.

“If none of us are prepared to die for freedom, then all of us will die under tyranny.” – Timothy Snyder

The time is NOW. Across every nation, we must unite and reclaim our power. Imagine a single week where billions of us refuse to work, refuse to spend, and peacefully halt the machines of greed and oppression.

The oligarchs—Bezos, Zuckerberg, Musk, and their ilk—depend on our labor and spending to maintain their grip on power. Without us, they are nothing. By coming together, we can send an SOS to the world: we will not accept a future ruled by greed, inequality, and fascism.

Yet too many cling to complacency, unwilling to recognize the immense strength we hold. The ONE PERCENT cannot thrive without the support of the 99%.

Let us stop greasing the wheels of tyranny and show what people power truly means. Peaceful protest. Strategic action. Global solidarity. The time to act is now—before it’s too late.

Are you ready to stand together?

So few seem to have the spine to tell Trump to fuck right off. Much like they will not have the ballz to call him out when he doesn't come through on lower prices of groceries, protecting social security and Medicare, making homes affordable, growing the job market with good paying union jobs, bringing down the costs of medical care in this country,.....the list goes on. This loser will do nothing for any of the 99% except throw us the crumbs from his tax cuts that won't help us at all when costs soar from tariffs and mass deportations. You'll save $350 on your taxes, oh, and yeah, costs soared on everything so now your life is also $4000 more a year to live! Enjoy!
