I don’t know why any news outlet is even wasting their time at press conferences anymore. They just lie or spout absurdities and essentially troll the press anyway. I fast forward through any video of them at this point. I think reporters should spend their time and resources on investigative reporting. Flood the zone with information about what they’re actually doing, not their lies about it.

I wonder what would happen if the press pool dwindled because the media lost so much of their audience? 🤔 How can we make that possible?

Already turned off everyone but PBS, AP, Pro Publica, maybe the Guardian.

Unfortunately these outlets shamelessly whitewashed the Gaza genocide to the point that allowed now Trump to peddle it as a demolished construction site. Full, adversarial journalism has to be always on the side of the people and not with corporate zionist oligarchs. We can do better ❤️🍉

I'm 💯 open to recommendations. I found coverage of Gaza with Democracy Now and did note that the above did not cover that properly at all.

"above" meaning the other outlets I listed above.

I have to disagree about PBS, Rosie. I am so disappointed in their sanewashing of the first felon for most of last year and even more so since his election and coronation. I ended my decades long monthly contributions and don’t watch the their news anymore.

Is it PBS in general (news hour, etc) or do you also listen/watch your local? I've wondered about my own. I have a huge soft spot for PBS having grown up in Appalachia with them as one of three channels on the TV.

Excellent — and true — comments, Karen. I totally agree. Thank you for this.

‪Now I lay me down to sleep‬

I pray the courts, Trumps arse you keep

And hold him in a cell so tight

He n’er wakes for morning light

Then as we start the brand new day

We leap and shout, Hip Hip Hooray!!

But then we get Vance. Not quite as stupid, but apiring to be as evil.

Even trump loyalists have to be rolling their eyes about this petulant 5th grader and his effing demands. Between this and the buffoonish celebration of "saving girls" by banning trans women from serving in the military or competing in girls sports. All he wants is a shit show, so he can pose with his idiotic frown with a hundred American flags behind him. What a broken man!

We all agree.

We can all say this till the cows come home.

We gotta fight back.

This is a civil war by other means. We need to start acting like it, especially liberal politicians (and conservatives who have had enough). So far, there's been no violence. Let's hope it stays that way.

about them and report what they’re doing.

We need organized recall petitions in republican districts so these cowards voting with trump or doing nothing for fear of being primaried are more terrified of voters firing them

Expand full comment

It will require constitutional amendments to do that, I believe. I don’t disagree, but it would be difficult.

Expand full comment

That really is the key. Without Republican capitulates, he wouldn't have gotten this far. Recalls petitions immediately. How do you do that? I see a very small window of time before the military takes over the country. Seriously. How?

Expand full comment

I believe every state has its own laws about recall petitions so they’d have to be led by people aware of the rules so they’re legal. Nixon was brought down because voters pressured republicans to abandon him and we can do the same to Trump by taking his biggest weapon away

Another inspiring post,Dean. Thank you!!

I have a request. Would you please specify exactly how the SAVE Act potentially prevents women from voting…I want to know the exact words in the Act that can make this possible. Thom Hartmann included a link to the so-called SAVE Act in his recent Substack article. I wanted to read the Act for myself so as to be more fully informed before I spread the word regarding the truth of the intention behind this Act. However, there is so much legal ease that to me, a well educated, and informed woman but with a lack of a legal background, it reads like it’s no different than what we experience now at the polls- meaning that we have to show an ID such as our drivers license. This is precisely the argument I hear from the right regarding this Act…” it doesn’t affect anyone that’s here legally. It’s only to deter non-citizens from voting.”

I’m not questioning whether or not its intent is to, among other things, prevent the majority of women from voting. Tom Hartman‘s Substack article makes that intent abundantly clear. I am asking that you please help us understand how exactly (by pointing out the exact verbiage in the Act) it can accomplish this.

Begging... pleading .. for journalists at these absurd / blatantly mendacious/ disrespectful of anything "news conferences" to acquire little clacking devices, teeny tiny things like kids toys, and clack them when he lies. Then explain. On live TV. I mean, to just sit there and let him lie like that is .... not journalism. It's collaboration. GET THOSE CLACKING DEVICES. EXPLAIN TO THE TV CAMERA THEY GO OFF WHEN HE LIES. See you on the beach.

I absolutely LOVE this idea! There would be non-stop clacking whenever Trump opens his mouth!

Yes. I love it

But I am like everyone else, talking and then going back to my life.

I am right now fucking LOOKING for those clacking devices (I hope they don't just exist in my mind :) ) and am going to send them.

The more people are made aware of who among us is resisting - at great personal cost & with great personal integrity - the more likely others will follow. Even a tsunami starts with a displacement of the ocean ...... we are being displaced & we are becoming a tsunami of resistance, opposition, courage, hope, endurance, resilience, and persistence.

This is a great attitude to have. All Democrats should embrace this mantra of #resistance. Infighting never solves anything.

We need to be more positive and keep spreading this information that the #resistance is on and we are not gonna lay down and let Trump, Vance (Bowman?), and the rest of these GOP psychopaths ruin this country.

AP and some other news outlets are setting the example in reporting the facts, as they should. Tyrants and dictators have always thrived on lies, propaganda, and misinformation as well as disinformation, for the simple reason that the truth always reveals these people as the cowards and fools they really are. The pen is mightier than the sword when fact and truth prevail.

“The pettiness...almost hides the gravity of the situation.” Well it doesn’t hide, rather it glaringly highlights, his rapidly advancing dementia. His decline has been avoided in part because “he’s always been like that”. Except here the issues are at once more ludicrous and symbolic (Gulf of America) and more inane and impossible (Greenland) and terrifying (we can just take Panama Canal). They share the property of ignoring history, other people, and being stuck in a real estate mindset: land and its names are what matters.

I agree Sassoon should have resigned - she did. What she should do next is join Alvin Bragg or Letitia James to take the same charges in State or NYC courts. What Adams is accused of should be crimes it both of these jurisdictions. If either Alvin or Letitia do not prosecute, then this was clearly a political persecution. We shall all find out which it is together.
