Corporate media ignoring Trump’s “J6 Awards” gala scheduled for next week is appalling!

More normalization of Trump

One of the two major party presidential candidates is hosting an awards ceremony next week to celebrate the Jan 6 attackers—including those convicted for brutally beating up police officers. If that candidate were VP Kamala Harris, we would see wall to to wall coverage. (Just look how much the corporate media covered Harris not doing an interview with them!) But because it’s Trump, we hear just about nothing.

If you haven’t heard about the “J6 Awards” Gala to be held at Trump’s private country club on Sept. 5, that’s because the gatekeepers at corporate media have chosen not to cover it. (I wrote about it last week.) But as former 25-year FBI special agent Frank Figliuzzi discussed on my show this week, this is all part of “the media treating Trump as a legitimate candidate--And not the threat that he is.”

Figliuzzi—who is currently an MSNBC national security analyst—explained that when he read about the event, “My first response is anger,” adding, “Let's understand something, Trump is celebrating felons who beat law enforcement officers. But even more disturbingly, people who actually have been convicted.”

Figliuzzi is 100% correct. As I detailed in my article earlier this week, at least four of the twenty J6 terrorists specifically being celebrated were convicted of or pled guilty to assaulting police officers.

And the organizer of this awards event Trump is welcoming to his exclusive country club is Sarah McAbee, the wife of Ronald Colton McAbee who is serving six years in prison for assaulting more than one police officer on Jan 6.  As DOJ detailed, McAbee despicably held down one officer who had been “knocked to the ground, kicked, and stripped of his baton by other rioters” enabling the crowd to viciously beat him. As a result, “the officer sustained physical injuries, including a head laceration, concussion, elbow injury, bruising, and bodily abrasions.”

To be clear, Trump is by design a very visible part of this event. Not only is at his club that bears his name, his photo is on the website for the J6 Awards gala as an invited speaker. And Trump allies Rudy Guiliani and former advisor Peter Navarro are confirmed as speaking.  But that’s no surprise given Trump has repeatedly celebrated and defended the Jan. 6 terrorists calling them “patriots” and vowing to pardon those convicted of crimes— including those “who assaulted officers.” 

The why behind this event is obvious to Figliuzzi who explained, Trump “has to celebrate this because it's part of the legend that January 6th was something patriotic in in line with a stolen or rigged election.” Adding, “If he walks away from those terrorists, he walks away from the myth.”

Add to that, Trump celebrating these attackers and vowing pardons is intended to incentivize others to commit future violence on his behalf if he needs their help to win in 2024. Alarmingly, as Figliuzzi noted—Trump is already “preparing the battlefield by saying, if they win, they cheated.”

The why behind the corporate media ignoring this is unforgivable. Here is Trump allowing an organization to hold an event at his country club and use his photo to promote it that will “pay tribute not only to these individuals but to all J6 defendants who have shown incredible courage and sacrifice.” This all contributes to why our collective of contempt for corporate media is at an all-time high.
