Where is the media outrage over Trump refusing to debate VP Harris a second time?!
More corporate media double standard
When it comes to Vice President Harris, we saw corporate media loudly and repeatedly demand that she sit down for an interview with them within a few weeks of her becoming the candidate. The NY Times slammed her for not giving them an interview and of course CNN anchors followed suit. All of these people told us they wanted Harris to do interviews “to talk about her policies and answer some of the questions that voters have about her policies” as CNN’s Jake Tapper explained.
But where are these same corporate media outlets when it comes to Donald Trump refusing to agree to a second debate with Harris? Or that Trump is only doing interviews with media outlets that are very friendly to him like with his former advisor Larry Kudlow and right wing podcasts?!
In fact, Trump had agreed to sit for a 60 Minutes interview—as did Harris- that was to air this Monday. But a few days ago, Trump cancelled the appearance without explanation.
Imagine if the roles were reversed and Harris refused to agree to a second debate with Trump, did interviews with only people who are her supporters and cancelled a 60 Minutes interview without an explanation? We know the answer. Corporate media would’ve made this a huge issue—covering it in print and on air.
When it comes to presidential debates, traditionally there has been three between the two major party presidential candidates. However, in this campaign, there has only been one between Trump and Harris—and two overall with the June Trump-Biden debate.
Shortly after their first debate on Sept. 10, Harris agreed to a second debate to be held Oct 23 on CNN. At the time her campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon stated: “Vice President Harris is ready for another opportunity to share a stage with Donald Trump,” adding, “Donald Trump should have no problem agreeing to this debate.” But Trump balked, saying “it’s just too late, voting has already started.”
That is a far cry from Trump’s boast months ago on social media, “I am calling for Debates, ANYTIME, ANYWHERE, ANYPLACE!" What changed was that in the debate with Harris, Trump got crushed. Harris did so well, she saw a bump in the polls after the debate.
And it’s not like Harris has been silent on the issue of wanting a second debate. Just last week at a rally she taunted Trump to debate her, declaring: “I’m trying to debate Donald Trump again. I think he should debate again. The American people have a right to hear us discuss the issues.”
Harris even released a campaign ad a few days ago directed at Trump’s refusal to debate her. The ad titled “Say it to My Face” aired before college football games. It opens with the sports themed line of “winners never back down from a challenge,” calls Trump a “loser” and taunts renowned golf cheat Trump for not agreeing to meet the VP on October 23 on CNN for a second debate. (See ad below)
Did you even know that Harris has been pressing Trump like this for a second debate?! If not, thank corporate media for choosing not to cover it.
We were told that the media wanted to interview Harris “to talk about her policies and answer some of the questions that voters have about her policies.” Well what better venue for that then another presidential debate?! Especially given the huge TV ratings the first debate garnered.
Yet for some reason corporate media doesn’t want to pressure Trump to debate Harris. Could it be that the corporate media executives didn’t like the bump Harris saw from the first debate?!
Hard to say. However, what is clear is we are seeing yet another double standard when it comes to how corporate media treats Harris versus Trump. As I keep saying: In this election not only do we have to defeat Trump, we also need to defeat the pro-Trump corporate media.

Corporate media is in the bag for Trump. This is way beyond stoking the horse race. It’s propaganda for trump and against Harris. Corporate media, until they prove differently, are supporting Authoritarianism over democracy. The “free press” is bought and paid for. They’re “slitting their own throats”
Much of the media acts as though they are afraid of Trump. CNN has already gone way downhill. I have stopped watching even Anderson Cooper who used to be pretty fair. Even he has 'Smirking Scott' on his panel shows. No wonder they are rated the lowest of the big three (MSNBC & Fox) in viewership. They seem to be diving into a deep hole and pulling all the dirt on top of them. Can't wait til this is all over on Nov 5 when I hope with all my being that we will never go back and democracy will reign!
