Trump did not end wars, he just dragged the U.S. into Netanyahu’s war!

Benjamin Netanyahu has long wanted the United States to risk the lives of Americans to destroy the Iranian regime for him. To that end, Netanyahu—who has rightly been charged with war crimes for his slaughter of civilians in Gaza—has long peddled the lie that Iran was “weeks” or “months” away from developing a nuclear weapon. He yelled that before Congress, at the United Nations on Fox News and more. In fact, just last week, Comedy Central’s “The Daily” show released a montage of Netanyahu’s lies over the years beginning in 1996 as you can see below:

But in Donald Trump, Netanyahu finally found an American “President” gullible enough to carry this out for him. This led to Trump’s bombing of Iran on Saturday night in violation of both international and U.S. law that demands impeachment--as many Democrats are calling for.

This is not the end of U.S. involvement, it’s only the beginning. Indeed, Trump made that point in his speech Saturday after the bombing, noting this will lead to a large scale war if Iran doesn’t surrender: “There will be either peace or there will be tragedy for Iran far greater than we have witnessed over the last eight days." He then threatened Iran saying, “Remember, there are many targets left…if peace does not come quickly, we will go after those other targets with precision, speed and skill.”

And on NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday, VP JD Vance said bluntly, “We’re at war with Iran’s nuclear program.” Yes, we are at war with the goal being the destruction of Iran’s nuclear program by force.

No one—not Netanyahu, not Trump, not you nor I—thought a one-time bombing run by the U.S. targeting a nation of 90 million people would bring their nation to its knees. Nor would this one-time bombing end the ability of Iran to pursue a nuclear weapon. In fact, Iran responded to the U.S. bombing by launching missiles targeting Israel that destroyed buildings and injured nearly 100 people. In reality, it will take much more U.S. military action to achieve Trump and Netanyahu’s goal—including the potential of American troops on the ground.

None of this had to happen. In 2015, President Obama—together with China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, Germany and the European Union—signed a deal with Iran that would’ve prevented the country from developing nuclear weapons. Known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or JCPOA, this deal would have “blocked every possible pathway Iran could use to build a nuclear bomb while ensuring.” And it would have done so “through a comprehensive, intrusive, and unprecedented verification and transparency regime -- that Iran’s nuclear program remains exclusively peaceful moving forward." Under the 159-page deal, Iran "significantly reduced its nuclear program and accepted strict monitoring and verification safeguards to ensure its program is solely for peaceful purposes."

But that deal was ended in 2018 by Trump. Partly because Trump wanted to erase any achievements by Obama. But the other big reason was Netanyahu. He had clamored against the deal even happening. After Trump ended the deal, Netanyahu bragged in a video played on Israel television that he was the one who convinced Trump to do just that. Netanyahu boasted, “I had to stand up against the whole world and come out against this agreement. “And we didn’t give up” until Trump finally scrapped the Obama championed agreement.

Trump’s war on Iran based on lies of course conjures up the Iraq War. One of the worst liars cheerleading that war was Dick Cheney who--as an example-said in 2002, “Simply stated, there’s no doubt that Saddam Hussein now has weapons of mass destruction.”

But who else helped sell the Iraq war to the US based on lies? Netanyahu. Here’s a clip of Netanyahu testifying before Congress in 2002 as part of the Bush/Cheney propaganda campaign stating, “There is no question whatsoever that Saddam is seeking, is working, is advancing towards to the development of nuclear weapons.” (See clip below.)

In the end, the Iraq war lasted nearly nine years, resulted in thousands of Americans being killed, the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians at a cost of $3 trillion dollars.

Could Netanyahu convince Trump to send American troops to destroy Iran’s nuclear facilities? Well, before the Trump bombing on Saturday, the headlines were filled with reports of how the MAGA base opposed any military involvement in Iran with only 16% of Americans favoring US military action in Iran. But Trump didn’t care. So yes, it’s possible.

To be clear: Trump’s bombing of Iran is absolutely a violation of international law. Military strikes like the one Trump ordered on Iran are not permitted unless there is an “imminent threat” posed to the United States by Iran. That was not the case. Iran only vowed to respond against the U.S. if Trump first bombed them. Plus Iran had offered to negotiate with Trump before Israel launched its attacks to address the issue of nuclear weapons. (In fact, Netanyahu’s war on Iran is also a violation of international law per experts but then again Netanyahu is charged with crimes against humanity in connection with Gaza so we know international law means nothing to him.)

No one is happier about these developments than Vladimir Putin. Trump’s bombing has now given him cover with his illegal war on Ukraine. Indeed, Russia’s statement in response to the bombing calls the attack “irresponsible” and a “gross violation of international law.” How can the U.S. criticize Russia for attacking Ukraine based on lies when Trump did the same?!

I must applaud the many Democrats who are vocally slamming Trump and raising the specter than we are not just at war—but there is a potential for another never-ending war like Iraq. Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock statement stated bluntly, “This is war. And this is not the first time the American people have been told that it will end quickly.”

Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen echoed that sentiment, “Trump said he would end wars; now he has dragged America into one.” He rightly added, Trump should “not have joined Netanyahu in waging this war of choice.”

Others like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slammed Trump for “impulsively…launching a war that may ensnare us for generations” stating this is “absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment.”

Democratic Rep. Sean Casten of Illinois echoed calls to impeach Trump, writing, “No president has the authority to bomb another country that does not pose an imminent threat to the US without the approval of Congress.” He called on GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson to “grow a spine” and protect the war powers reserved for Congress.

Trump—who only informed GOP congressional leaders and not Democratic ones before the Iran bombing—deserves to be impeached, removed and then prosecuted for his crimes. But to do so, we would need Republicans in the House and Senate to put America first. The reality is that won’t happen. After all, these are the same Republicans supported Trump despite his attempted coup and Jan. 6 terrorist attack.

For now, the U.S. is at war thanks to Trump and Netanyahu. And both deserve to spend their last days in the same prison cell.
