Trump celebrating the cancelation of Colbert is what petty tyrants/scumbags do
Trump praises Jeffrey Epstein but slams Colbert
Donald Trump has long wanted Stephen Colbert fired—as CBS and its parent company Paramount knows. Trump has not only publicly whined for years about Colbert’s comedic barbs at his expense, calling Colbert a litany of names. But in September 2024, Trump went even further demanding that Colbert be fired after Colbert called him “boring.” At the time, Trump wrote point blank about Colbert, “CBS should terminate his contract.”
And on Wednesday, CBS did exactly what Trump had demanded from them just nine months earlier. Obviously, CBS’s parent company Paramount is trying to please Trump because they are seeking the Trump regime to approve a merger with Skydance--which is primarily funded by billionaire and huge GOP donor, Larry Ellison. So when Paramount executives says the decision to fire Colbert is a “financial decision” --they are being accurate in that this about the finances of these Paramount executives who want the deal to close so they can rake in even more money for themselves.
While millions were outraged that Paramount cancelled the top-rated late-night show host, Trump was giddy. Trump took to his social media platform to write, “I absolutely love that Colbert’ got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings.” He then added, “I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert! Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show.”
Let’s be blunt. Trump celebrating Colbert being cancelled and calling for Jimmy Kimmel to be next is NOT what a U.S. President says. It's what a petty tyrant/scumbag says. And that is exactly who Trump is.
This is the same Trump who has in the past tried to stop comedians from mocking him by way of lawsuits and even in his first term demanding the FCC investigate “Saturday Night Live.” But in his second term, Trump is openly embracing the tyrant playbook by using the power of government to punish media outlets, universities, law firms and any who dare to defy him.
That explains the timing of the Paramount announcement ending Colbert’s show. As we now know, Colbert’s show is scheduled to end in May 2026. That means Paramount could’ve announced that news anytime between now and May. The most fitting time probably would’ve been when the new TV season begins in September.
But Paramount executives choose to do this just three days after Colbert mocked Paramount on his show for paying Trump $16 million to settle a bullshit lawsuit over how CBS’s “60 Minutes” edited an interview of Kamala Harris. Colbert first cited the pending merger and then joked about the $16 million payment, “I believe this kind of complicated financial settlement with a sitting government official has a technical name in legal circles: it’s 'big, fat bribe.'”
That helps explain the timing of why Paramount announced a May 2026 end date on the very random date of Wednesday, July 16, 2025. It was to send a message to Trump we are doing exactly what you want so please approve the merger.
It’s not that Trump doesn’t want to see Skydance own Paramount. Oracle founder Larry Ellison who per the NY Times “is putting up most of the $8 billion bid by his son, David” being used by Skydance to buy Paramount, was just at the White House hobnobbing with Trump in January. And the elder Ellison donated more than $31 million to GOP candidates during the 2022 congressional midterms.
Now you get one just last month Trump praised Ellison’s son David who would run the new company, saying, “he’ll do a great job.” And the reporting that Ellison wants to give the right-wing Bari Weiss a prominent role in the new massive media company, “including a role for Weiss in shaping CBS News' editorial direction,” has to make Trump and other Republicans even happier as they see the prospect of another pro-Trump network.
It was heartening to see Democrats finally take a page from the GOP and slam the firing of Colbert. Senator Adam Schiff wrote on social media: “If Paramount and CBS ended the Late Show for political reasons, the public deserves to know.” Sen. Bernie Sanders stated, “Stephen Colbert, an extraordinary talent and the most popular late-night host, slams the deal. Days later, he’s fired,” adding, “Do I think this is a coincidence? NO.”
And Senator Liz Warren wrote, “CBS canceled Colbert’s show just THREE DAYS after Colbert called out CBS parent company Paramount for its $16M settlement with Trump – a deal that looks like bribery. America deserves to know if his show was canceled for political reasons.
The GOP has for years used the power of government to pressure companies to do what the right wants. It’s time Democrats lean into this. Democratic Attorneys General in New York and California should open investigations since these media companies have offices in those states to see if there was any illegality with the bribe and firing. This will send a message to corporations that bending a knee to Trump does not come without a risk.
Back to Trump being a scumbag—as we would call him in New Jersey where I grew up. This is the same Trump who in 2002 called Jeffrey Epstein a “terrific guy” adding he “likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.” But when it comes to Colbert, Trump has called him a “low life.”
Those two quotes perfectly sum up Trump. A very funny comedian who brings joy to millions but dares to mock him is a “low life,” yet a serial pedophile who introduced Trump in 1994 to a 14 year-old girl who was his date, is a “terrific guy.” Again, Trump is a scumbag.

Trump's occupation of the Oval Office is now a clown show where he is a weapon of mass distraction, and his 15 minutes of fame fading fast.
